Default New tau player

Hola, some of you might have seen me post in the marines or hobby section in the fourms but I am starting as new army.

I am starting tau because first of all they look cool, second, I play them all the time and I usually lose to them and lastly Ive had my SW for forever and am I think i should change.

I am also thinking of starting a commander farsight army because I absolutely love suits but I havent bought him yet so any suggestions or oppinions i am open to.

There are a few problems with Farsight.
One: He needs a large starting army to be fielded.
Two: He is a rather difficult and unforgiving commander to field, forcing you to use unusual unit combinations and going to places where Tau are better away from.
He is very good in Close Combat, yet needs support to not be slaughtered, making the rest of the army in close combat...
I strongly suggest starting with a normal commander, as they are extremely flexible and easier to use. You can still field 15 suits with them anyway.
Further along your time as a Tau player you will have the necessary experience to field him effectively.
I didn't get Farsight until I realized that my 3000 point army didn't break any of the restrictions of Breakaway Faction save the Kroot one, and he still has a 155 Point Ninja'O and two 80 point guards offering close support at all times.

Welcome to the Tau'va Anyway.

well the way i use farsight is just really everyone else functions like any other Tau unit(long range killing) then just use farsight with 2-3 bodyguards and yer still not really try to put him in close combat for long as possible and just using his plasma rifle along with the missile pods and plasma rifles of the bodyguards

But yer i really just find that battlesuits seem to work far better than firewarriors and especially against anyone with a 3+ save or better... so thats basically it but yer if ya vsing heaps of lets say tyranids or imperial guard i suggest u just stick with hammerheads and using summunitions or yer more fire warriors.

Any Q's and just opions don't hesitate to ask

If your prepared to sacrifice almost every unit in the army apart from fire warriors and crisis suits, then by all means start Farsight. I was debating whether I should get Farsight as I play a very suit heavy army, I decided against it as I liked my Kroot collection too much and didn't want the Knarlocs to go to waste.

sacrifice what mate? there is only a few units that are 0-1 and and yer just keep the squads of those larger, like if u want broadsides, make it a complete squad rather than 2 and maybe 1 somewhere else

by the way spell check doesn't pick up "m8" lucky i picked that and wrote mate

Well, most of your units are like that. With that rule comes some tough choices. 'Can I really afford to take an ion head, knowing I can only have 1 squad of broadsides for my railguns?' 'Which units should my pathfinders support this game?' 'Can I be successful in CC without kroot support?'

If you can confidantly answer these questions, as well as having a thick wallet, and a lot of patience (painting FWs get boring, and there is always frustration with the stupid crisis feet), you very well might be able to handle a Farsight army!

However, start buying slow. Two of your three reasons for starting Tau are "Im bored with my current army' and 'I keep getting rolled by the Tau'. They might not be the army for you, so make sure you dont waste your money

if you are interested in a decent deal...let me know...I like to play with human auxiliaries...and I found a place that can get you 40 of them for little under 42$ and thats to play WYSIWYG with lasguns.

you get another 40, which you could simply sell of or trade...or use.

Yes, if you want to play close quarters with Tau, get a Ninja'o or farsight, some squads of Gue'la Human Auxileries/Kroot, with a squad or two of Fire Warriors (maybe you could give them photon grenades?), and go for a Fish of Fury to transport the Fire Warriors.

On a related note, Firesight doesn't restrict Gue'la warriors! I also found the link for them:

The Feet? NEVER GLUE THE ANKLES ONTO THE FEET.
Creates all kinds of problems when they just snap off.
If that's what your foot problem was.
