Default Stealth suit initiative

Hi all, new member, first post. ;D
I am about to have my first combat patrol with my Tau that I have finally finished painting, hurrah! I was just having a quick scan through the codex and I noticed that Stealth suits being assaulted are treated as in cover unless they have charged. Does this mean that in close combat they fight at initiative 10? How do they fare in combat if this is the case?
I'm wondering because I plan to go stealth heavy.
BTW I like Stealth suits

Greetings, heavily chili-powdered rodent with long teeth. For the first round of CC, stealthsuits count as being in cover but not after that. I hope that statement doesn't violate wossname... copyright thingy.

Only the first round eh? Oh well, better than nothing if the worst should happen I suppose.
I've got some pics of my combat patrol here
http://www.satanico.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/ if anyone's interested.
I'll be playing CSMs to start with, then possibly 'nids.
I've opted for a
Crisis Fireknife w/MT
Stealth Team x5 Bonded
Firewarrior Team x8
Firewarrior Team x8
This is 395 points, I couldn't find anything to spend the extra 5 on, any suggestions?

Welcome to the forums! That should be a fun list to play. I like the stormtroopers.

Stealths are probably one of the best units in the tau arsenal once you get the hang of how to use them. However, they generally die in CC except against pretty weak opponents - it's always best to avoid CC when possible.

As far as the list goes, it looks solid enough. Generally it's better to have 6 stealths than 5 (6 requires you to lose 4 before you drop below 50%) but in a 400 point list that's probably hard to do - I'd probably opt for 4 without bonding (it's pretty useless), drop one of the FW troops, and spend the points you save on kroot plus more FWs to fill out the first troop.

When Stealths are charged, they fight the first round like they are in cover, so yes, they get Initiative 10 for the first round...by why are the stealths getting charged anyways? lol ;D

Thanks for the pointers, don't worry, I'll be keeping the suits about 18" away from the bad guys at all times

if I was you I'd drop the Bonding and make the crisis TLPR+MT(useless but to fill a point) and drop one FW squad use the 5pts and get the other a Fish w/ DL and drop one FW in the remaining eam for a 6th stealth, mobility Matters

Thanks Dizzy,
I have the Devilfish primed but not finished yet, I'm planning on playing 400-500 point games pretty often,
(during lunch at work, actually ), so I'm going to try out different tactics as i get the minis painted. I wasn't sure if a fish would be that useful in a small game, but I will give it a try.
