Default Eldar Tank Problems - Tank Shock

Hey everyone.

I've been around on these forums for a while, and I've seen people ask before about how to kill those tough-as-nail Eldar tanks. Conventional wisdom is that you shouldn't even try, but keep them shaken with relativley low powered weaponry (Ie: missile pods) for the whole game and kill something else.

I can handle that well enough. It's rare that my friend's Fire Prisms/Wave Serpents actually get to shoot. The problem is that whenever I DO shake them, they just tank-shock into my poor LD 8 squads. If the squad dosen't break, the tank does it again. If it does, it runs off the board and I lose 150+ points.

I've tried maxing out on Missile Pods. I haven't tried EMP grenades, because they seemed too expensive (and an average of two glancing hits per full Fire Warrior squad isn't going to kill anything). The only reliable method I've got (dropping a full squad of Fire Warriors onto the rear armour via a Devilfish) is too expensive unless I completley rebuild my army to be mechanised (atm I'm hybrid).

I don't want to take the easy way out and say Eldar tanks are overpowered. There must BE a cost effective way to stop them, I just haven't figured it out yet. Any ideas?

you realize last man standing is auto-hit right?

emp grenades are gunna be more then 2 damaging results. All you need is a stun, immobilize, or destroy

Are you sure it's auto-hit? I don't have the rulebook with me, but I thought you get one attack. I thought you still needed to hit with it like normal.

Last man standing is a rule for when your squad is down to one person.

Death or Glory! is the rule in question:

1 attack only.

Auto Hit

Take a Shas'ui in the squad, and give him EMP grenades. Cheaper than giving the whole squad the grenades. Just remember, if he fails the death or glory, he WILL die.

Stun actually dosen't work (one of the Eldar tank upgrades). And whilst Death or Glory might slow it down, it dosen't actually kill it. So it'll just do it again.

It's a good idea, and I'll do it, but I get the impression it won't be enough on its own.

It has a one in six chance of killing it, and another 1/6 chance of stopping it from doing it again, for a 23 point model its not that bad.

Remember, you auto hit, but you must still roll to glance/pen. EMP grenades will not therefore kill a falcon 1 in six times, but more like 1/12 (1/6 pen * 1/2 kill) + 1/18 (1/3 glance + 1/6 kill) for a total chance of 2/20, or one in ten. That said, it is probally enough to make him think twice about tank shock.

Aside from EMP grenades, which I disagree with in an army like Tau is a few piranhas round the rear with burst cannons. I found fusion blasters to be too one use, the burstcannons can turn on infantry too. I'm using 5 piranhas in my 2000pts game against eldar tomorrow and they all have BC's. That'll put out 25 shots, with decent chance of getting behind an eldar tank. Don't think they'll be expected in this role either. Might work, I'll let you all know.

As an Eldar player, I can tell you that some Eldar players like to have a Vyper trailing their tanks to ward of anyone going for the rear armour. Another thing to watch out for with this tactic against Falcons is that a squad of Fire Dragons, whose fusion guns are much the same as your fusion blasters, could disembark (or bail out when the thing crashes) and get your Pirahna.
