Default question about locking someone in combat

ok, I know you cannot assault after deepstrike, but assuming you still get your 6 inch move in the assault phase after a deepstrike, could you use that to move within base to base contact and lock a unit in combat, even though you do not assault?

Deepstrike specifically states that you can neither move nor assault (and since what you want to do is move, you cant)

word. thanks.

well, ignoring deepstrike, is this possible during a standard assault phase? or is their some restriction about not coming within a certain distance of enemy models unless charging? Could I, for instance, fire at one unit, and then jump into base to base with another, without charging, and lock them in combat?

No, you must end movement at least 1" away from any enemies, and it's obsolete anyway as shooting comes after movement.

Oh, I see what you mean now.

Well I know you can only charge the unit you shot, and it says they are allowed to move 6" if they don't assault, so still no.

Hmmmm, since were on the issue of deep striking can i ask a question?
What happens if your units deep strike onto an area and become in partial base contact with an opponent's unit?
Does it count as unit locked in close combat?
And will the 2 units fight in the close combat phase of that turn?

A crisis suit cannot use its 2nd jump move to get into combat. The only way to get into base to base contact with an enemy model is to assault them. Otherwise you may never move within 1".

A unit that lands on top of, or within 1" of enemy soldiers while deep striking is destroyed.
