Default Has anyone else noticed this?

Does anyone else find that their opponents feel an irrational need to completely destroy their kroot on turn 1?

I find that taking a cheap is actually keeping the whole rest of my army safe for a turn or two

Is it just me?

It largely depends on the opponent in question and his/her past experiences with Kroot.

Other opponents go after Stealths first "just because".

When fielding Kroot, I take them for lots of reasons - that my opponent could have an irrational hatred/fear of them, and dedicates most of his forces to take them out is not one of it, though.

Cheers,

I've noticed this just recently. mostly against opponents who are not used to fighting tau. The only thing I can come up with is they must realize the lack of a saving throw and figure it's an easy way to make some points. But they are usually in 4+ cover so this still alludes me. I've had Kroot in front of Pathfinders, where both are easily target able, and instead of making a target priority test and trying to eliminate the pathfinders for causing them so much trouble, they keep plugging away at the kroot who are doing relatively nothing all game.

Ya i definatly noticed this as well. I had a 12 man(wait...xenos? lol) kroot squad with no upgrades shoot an imperial guardsman command squad down to the junior officer. On his turn he just thought his officer was a tough nut with the shiny power weapon(which was worstless) and on the charge he killed 1 kroot in turn taking 6 wounds . This left his main battle line of five 10 man squads (all in charge distance) out for the pickings. I charged one and ANNIHALTED it outright and consolodated and inch away from the next squad (rolled a 2 ). Needless to say he committed all 4 squads to rapid fire on my kroot. I stopped counting after 10 wounds lol but hey they took a whole turn of fireing which really won the game for me...Ontop of this a 84pt squad killed something like 150pts in 2 turns . So yes i love kroot now and my oponent hates them so will definatly keep using them

I think the reason is that most non-Tau players think kroot are better in close combat than they actually are(but if they carry on like this they'll never find out)

Yes, I have noticed this with my opponents as well.

However, I try hard to encourage in them a deep and irrational hatred/fear of ALL my units. I figure the more I force them to make hard choices, the more opportunities they'll give me to win... and perpetuate their irrational fears! >:-)

I think that there are a few reasons;

They are thinking strategically. If they take out your kroot, then you are very vulnerable to close combat attacks.

They want to take out weak units first so they can focus on the tougher units later.

They want to damage your morale, or increase theirs.

They think Kroot are amazing in close combat.

They're scared of them because of their ugly faces.

i tend to keep my kroot tucked away, i've never noticed them to be especially targetted but i think thats because i don't play them in the open. also my kroot are a new addition to my army and the people i play are used to going after my crisis suits.

I suppose it is a good thing if your opponent thinks your troops are better than they actually are

My Kroot usually die pretty quick, but they're usually pretty close to the enemy in a position to annoy/objective grab/ harras right from turn one.

I don't mind when they die, (Ok that's a lie, I think its hysterically funny when they die) and if my opponent is forced to dig them out of cover and deal with them, so much the better.

Kroot are the perfect lure for Kauyon
