Default What to buy for the third broadside hardpoint????

Ive only got one broadside, and Im wondering what I should buy for the third hardpoint?? TL has no use on a single broadside, MT seems useless, the SG is a bit expensive but halves the high AP shots, drones maybe?? what are your experiences with XV-88s gear??

Typically, the multi-tracker is most popular choice for solo broadsides, along with gundrones (or shield drones). Some people invest heavily into the shield generator and then take a team leader upgrade for shield drones, thus buying their suit for twice the price (bad in my opinion...). Target locks are great for squads.

However, I prefer just the multi-tracker and leaving my XV-88 in or near cover. The reason is that it's nice to have full shots at the 24 inch range sometimes. A lot of players never use their SMS though, so the drones become handy as well. Drones will ward off those stray lascannon blasts or plasma blasts, but not for very long. And they make you vulnerable to over-saturation of firepower (if 3 heavy bolters shot into the squad, you'd be in serious trouble with majorities working against you). If you find your broadside only being shot at by high powered low Ap shots, but low volume, then try some gundrones and stick to cover--you may find it more resilient, though more pricey. However, if you take all sorts of shots at your broadside, I'd recommend the multi-tracker and cover and just keep her as cheap as possible. Remember, more suits are better than just a single very expensive one, even when it comes to XV-88's.

Good luck!

MT, drones create too much hassle, sheilds are too expensive on an already expensive guy and TL is worthless, that leaves the nice cheap Mt to pck it up

I've never played a single broadside suit before, but I would think the multi-tracker would be a good idea. You can hide it from infantry fire by keeping it behind size two terrain and leave line of sight open to tanks, but a stray lascannon and you lose 70+ points. I personally would try to use the drone controller, and two shield drones and keep them behind size two terrain so the only thing that should be shooting at them is heavy weapons, which can be directed to your drones.

It's my belief that if you spend a lot of points on a unit that is vital to your game plan, you should do everything possible to keep it alive. Because of that, I try to play 2-3 Suits instead of a single one.

If youre going for the Elite, highly upgraded army, go for a sheild generator(i dont reccomend this), but if you just want a normal broadside unit get a MT.

I think it would be a good idea to get a Sheild gen. I had a multi tracker and thought it worked well but when the suit can under heavy fire it would quickly drop, after changing to the SG my BS has been making it though most games and hence is not Vp for my oponent and has more of a chance of getting me Vp

yea, sheild generators have always been my favorite option, for 20pts. you really increase the livability of the broadside by a lot, because then the enemy has to first beat your 2+ armor save, and if they have an ap 2 weapon they then have to beat your 4+ invulnerable save.

My opinion is the same- Multitracker and set up in 4+ cover. If for some odd ball reason you are play on the Salt-flats a shield gen would then be useful but that's it. Target locks might be versitile too, but when I shoot at vehicles I want them to die so I have no problem landing all 3 rail shots into them- MAximise the chance for a kill.

Definately the MT, especially with the TL Plasma Rifle that you can buy that only takes up one hardpoint...shoot at the beastie, then finish him off if he's too close!
