Default Tau question

Is it possible to make a totally battlesuit army. Sorry if this is a dumb question, I was thinking about a Tau army and really like the battlesuits.

Almost, but you still need two troops choices.

HQ can have as many as 6 battlesuits (2 commanders w/2 bodyguards each)
Elites can have up to 18 (3 units of 6 Stealthsuits)
Troops has none. But 2 squads of 6 FW in Devilfishes helps the Mech feel.
Fast Attack have none. Gun Drones are an option.
Heavy Support can have up to 9 (3 units of 3 broadsides)

I'd suggest a Farsight army for consideration as well. Although you need 1500 points plus, you get Farsight and he can have a bodyguard of up to 7 Crisis suits. However, the downside is that you can only take one squad each of Stealth Suits and Broadsides, so it depends how much you like Crisis Suits.

Any strategies behind this want of a battlesuit army? While you won't get a 100% battlesuit army, you can see that they can easily make up more then just a majority of your army. But tbh their usually not that practical of an idea as XV-8 rely heavily on cover for protection. If you want an army that gets in the opponents face, you'll likely want to invest in shield drones.

Not much choice. The wargear section is one of the few parts of the book you really need, since you can pull the profiles off GW's summary pages, and the points aren't that hard to find. But Tau Wargear rules are wierd.

Like I said, we can't really give you the details, but Shield Drones are essentially just extra models in the unit with Invulnerable saves. So if the unit takes a hit from a Lascannon, you can pawn it off on the robot. He may even live. That makes the Shield Drone a little more reliable than a Shield Generator, although the Generator helps more in Close Combat.

My plan for my army is to have each Tau fire warrior squadron a Crisis Suit or a squad to give them backup firepower. Behind them will be Sky Ray's and Hammerheads along with Broadsides.

I was wanting this army just for tournaments. How well do you think it would do? I noticed in the codex that only the Hammerhead railgun can fire the submutions that use the big pie plate, and the was making me question my idea of only using Broadsides. What are your thoughts?
