Default Marklights & Disembarking

Can Pathfinders or Shas'ui FW's fire their Markerlights on the same turn they disembark from a Devilfish?

I'd be good to know before I insert those units into my list so I don't have people crying foul.

Cheers~!

As per the stat line, markerlights are a Heavy Weapon. When you disembark from a vehicle, they count as moving, so cannot fire them.

Markers on a mounted squad are not generally worth it, as you may only get one shot off from them in the entire game.

Pathfinders should have nothing to do with their devilfish unless a horde of screaming gaunts are bearing down on them - you want them to sit still, and light up the enemy army.

Okay that clears that up ...

But then this leads into why in the hell did GW decide to outfit pathfinders with a manditory transport if they probably won't use it?!

Gah this boggles the mind. (BTW thanks for clearing that up Rafe )

Many reasons - fluff wise, to represent the transport they use to get into position, and rules wise (if you ignore that bull crap FAQ) having scout on it was quite effective, at getting into a nice position, as you could deploy 12", then scoot up a further 12" to a nice bit of cover, and disembark them.

Hehe. If I had a quid for everytime I had been beaten to a post, I'd have like 6.70.

Sadly our Heavy weapon that weighs about as much as a 6 pack of beer cant be fired on the run.

There is a loophole however.
Marker drones,
Stealth shuits
both can move in the assault phase even after firing any weapon.
Though you wont get as many marker shots and marker drones are much more expensive per marker than a pathfinder, you still have a mobile marker source.

How the Klkn did you manage to beat someone to .7 of a post!?

And I'm not certain about that loophole. Heavy weapons can't fire, and charge in the assault phase, so I wouldn't take it 100% for granted.

Try not to think about it to much, it makes the brain hurt.

Honestly I use the Pathfinders fish as a gunboat/wall. It runs escort for my Fire warrior devilfishes, shoots the same targets as them and stays in front of them to force some target priority checks on the enemy.
