Default New to 40k question about Tau Skimmers

I just started playing 40k and chose Tau as my army. I am trying to find clarification on how far the various Tau skimmers can move. I was also curious about how far they can move and shoot. The ones I am wondering about specifically are the skyray, devilfish, and hammerhead.

They move as their vehicle class - they are classed as "Tank" and "Skimmer"

If you look in the rulebook for vehicle speeds, it gives you a list of how fast they can move, and what weapons they can fire.

For ease, they all move 12", as per normal tanks. Shooting depends on the weapons - 0" - all, 6" - 1 Main, all defensive, 12" - Skimmer moving fast, and no weapons(IIRC)

We can take a multi tracker, enabling us to fire as fast vehicles.

I highly reccomend getting the rule book, it really does help

Yeah, but its not a problem, is it? As long as people don't ask for specific stuff, like what is a space marine stat line, then its ok.

However, reading the rulebook, and citations to it, does the person a service: giving them the ability to actually find htis rule in play. Going by: "well, guy on Tau Online forum said so.." is something that's spurrious as well.

I'm a RAW kinda guy. Show it to me in print. If you have some kinda snazz ability, why?

Lads, lads, lads. None of these questions actually helps Nizno, and, considering this was his first post, you´re a bit harsh.

Especially at the beginning, all the rules for 40K can seem daunting. We are used to them thanks to years of experience; but someone at the beginning of his/her wargaming career can be easily intimidated. All the questions asked were legitimate ones - sure, he could have found his answers in the rulebook, but especially at the beginning, it is easier to ask a question.

@Nizno: Welcome to TO, sorry for the "warm" welcome; we`re really nice guys (well, MOST of us, anyway - stay away from Wargamer! ). As for your questions; Rafe is absolutely right (as usual); for a bit of added information, just check your Rulebook under the "vehicles"-section; all the special rules ("Tank", "Skimmer", "Fast Vehicle") are explained in detail there.

Cheers,
-Bone

A bit of advice if you are just starting Tau. Don't leave home without a multitracker on your skimming tanks. This will allow you to move 12" and still shoot all your weapons (1 main and all defensive, as our tanks only ever have 1 main...) Note the multitracker only counts you as a fast vechile for shooting purposes. So no movement 24".
So Hammerheads, Skyrays, and Devilfish can move 12" and Pirhana and tetra can move 24" (however if the move over 12" they can't fire weapons)

Thanks guys,

Sorry for asking such a silly question but I think I got confused when someone was talking about the hammerhead and how it could move 12 and shoot. I saw the section on movement on tanks, etc but didn't realize the multitracker was what was allowing the 12" move and shoot. This had me questioning what the movement on the skimmers were since the rulebook also had a footnote stating most skimmers were considered fast moving (I assume they meant more jetbikes and such). My questions are answered now, and I really appreciate all the responses.

anyhow the answer is you can move your skimmers as far as you can see in a straight line, because theyre really fast. As long as you make a "SHOOOOOOOooooo" noise when you move them
