Default A question about crisis suit weapons...

Hello everyone I've had a successful run of battles with my tau so far (3 games and 3 victories!),
however i was wondering if it is possible to arm a crisis suit with 2 of each weapon and not have then twin-linked as I've faced space marines and i find that the missile pods are excellent all round weapons against them.

The rule that forbids it is on page 25 under Battlesuit Armoury, last sentence. "No model can pick the same item twice ... ." I had to spend part of a post-game evening digging for it once.

A battlesuit cannot pick the same piece of wargear twice. However, there's always more ways to add some extra Dakka to your Tau. When it comes to facing Marines, my favorite battlesuit configurations are Deathrain and Fireknife.

Deathrain = Twin-linked Missile Pods + Flamer. The flamer is just there to fill in the third hardpoint; don't get any ideas about moving your battlesuits close enough to actually use them. Alternatively, you can replace the Flamer with a Targetting Array (if you have the points).

Fireknife = Plasma Rifle + Missile Pod + Multi-Tracker. This configuration is a tad more expensive than the Deathrain, but has a lot of Marine-killing goodness.

Against marines, try using crisis with a plama rifle, fusion blaster, and multitracker. This has the potential of taking down 3 marines a turn. Be sure to win priority though, and gang up to stop them from wrecking you with return fire.

thanks for all the replies, in response to the last post, against marines at the moment i`m using plasma rifle's, missile pod's and a multi-tracker aka fireknife (so I'm told).

the recent problem i came across is space marine drop pods, any help with that would be much obliged.

not everyone does the fire knife, but it does have perks, if you believe in the right weapon, right time theory.

for me I specialize my teams, but I don't neglect a fire knife.

For instance.

I may do this

Shas`o

cyclic ion blaster/plasma rifle/Black sun filter/bonding knife/Hw Multi tracker

Shas`vre

Plasma rifle/target array/missile pod/Hw target lock

Shas`vre

Plasma rifle/target array/missile pod/Hw target lock

Its slightly expensive, but it allows me to focus with accurate plasma fire (especially within rapid fire range) in addition, the cyclic ion blaster, coupled with a plasma rifle will launch 7 potential Space marine killers (granted if your lucky hehe) or 7 armor 4+ foes.

yet, however specialized this is, it has a drawback against foes that you would be wasting it on.

So missile pods with target locks will allow firing at two potential targets. Thus countering skimmers, nids, or medium tanks.

I would include this with a shas`ui squad dedicated to death rain fire. Doing this will allow me a wide firing arch, that counters to what my infantry cannot readily handle. And allows me 10 str 7 shots (granted if they are still standing.)

Your Shas'vre can only fire one weapon a turn, without a hardwired multitracker.

Actually, that reminds me of something else you can do with Fireknife suits.

For your commander's retinue, equip the two Shas'vre thusly:
Plasma Rifle, Missile Pod, Targeting Array, HW Multi-Tracker, HW Target Lock

This can allow you to split fire; focusing the Plasma Rifles at foes within Rapid-Fire range, while allowing you to fire Missile Pods at further-away foes (light armor, for example).
