Default A Pulse Caribine Question

How many times does your opponent actually have to take a pinning test when shooting with a pulse carbine. In other words if i shoot with multiple carbines does my opponent have to take multiple leadership tests

You may force several pinning checks on your target, so long as the source of the pinning came from seperate squads. A single squad does not cause multiple pinning checks with carbines.

Two difference squads would cause 2 pinning checks.
Two squads in two devilfish could cause 4 pinning checks (2 different squads, 2 sets of gundrones on the devilfish) for example.

If a unit takes even one casualty from a weapon that causes Pinning, they must take a single pinning test, no matter how many wounds they take ...from that source.

If they take additional Pinning casualties from other units shooting at them, they have to make additional Pinning tests for each source. It's not one test per casualty, it's just one test per enemy unit shooting at them and causing casualties.

Note also that if you take a bunch of casualties and it drops your unit to where it would need to take a Morale test for losing 25% or more from shooting, this is an additional test because it's a Morale test as opposed to a Pinning test.

Clear?

The good news though is that Tau are the masters of causing multiple Pinning tests. Yeah, it's only one test per unit that inflicts any, but that counts for Carbines in unit, Carbines in Drone units, Carbines on Drones on/off of Devilfish and Railrifles in Pathfinder units. We have lots of ways to inflict Pinning. Plus, if you Markerlight a pinning weapon then it hits on 2+ and since all our weapons are generally S5 or higher, it's an even better chance. Try Markerlighting for Drones, even the ones off of transports - twin-linked (1 die, re-rolling misses) hitting on a 2+ and wounding on a 3+ or better...
