Default what do you think?

hey new to the forums and to the tau army, do you think this is a good starting army?

i have a 12 man firewarrior squad with pulse rifles and am getting the apocalypse boxset tomorrow with
9 XV8 suits (6 for elites and 3 for hq with bodyguard) 3 stealth suits and some drones.

after this i will get the 30 firewarrior and devilfish squad.

do you think this is ok to start with?
bear in mind i don`t want kroots or vespid, just purely tau.

Unless your going to equip some of those suits with fusion blasters your going to get a hard-time facing tanks. You need some railguns in there

I've gotta agree with cyberzomby, you need to pick up a Hammerhead or Broadside to add rails to your list. Also, if you buy a tank get the Skyray box not the Hammerhead - it has all the parts for both. The same holds true when you buy your devilfish - get the Skyray and use magnets to make it convertable.

There's also a heavy support apocalypse box set that comes with two hammerheads and a skyray. It comes with three railguns, three ioncannons, and a skyray bit. All for US$90.

I`ll give you the same advice I give anyone who starts a new army:

Start small. The forces you`ve got are enough for a couple of Combat Patrol games. Play the games, familiarise yourself with the army and the rules.

In short, find out if Tau really are for you before spending large sums of money for an army which might not be ideal for you.

Also, another advice: Try to magnetise your suits. This helps to keep them flexible with their equipment, and you won`t find yourself fiddling with knives, desperately trying to re-equip them. There`s a thread over at the Conversion Boards about adding magnets to Crisis Suits (http://forums.tauonline.org/index.php?topic=4208.0).

Another thing: Don`t build all 9 Crisis Suits at the same time. Take your time, build them as you need. Our hobby is one where you get better quite fast - build one Crisis, try to learn and observer what works and what doesn`t. Baby steps is the key here.

Cheers,
-Bone

again thanks for the help although i`m not new to the hobby just the tau i did eldar and space wolves before hand for years (and a high elf and dwarf army for warhammer) but fancied a change and the anime styled mechs really appealed to me.

It sounds like a fine starter army to me. A bit heavy on the crisis suits for my tastes (I rarely use more then the required HQ) but it's definitely a good start for the army. Just keep anit-tank on your mind for your next purchase.
