Default tau cultural evolution

Any Ian M. Banks readers out there?

The Culture from his books seems very Taulike,
(if everything goes their way and the have a few milllion? years.)

does this occur to anyone else?

OK the Culture

technologically advanced society (as is possible)

uses A.I. 'Minds' run the society (are also its ships)

'Drones' are rife throughout the culture and have varying levels of complexity but most are sentient and are citzens

the culture is made up of many races

I'm being very simplistic and leaving out much.
someone else may give a better description
(or I'll find one)

read the books, their worth the read,
my favourates are 'Excession' and 'Consider Phelbas'

I haven't read the Culture books, but from what I know the Tau really don't seem to have much in common with them.

The Tau have a strict ranking system ingrained into their culture; the Culture seems to be a plutocracy; as I recall, every citizen had the opportunity to vote on the Culture declaring war.

In the Culture, biologicals are really secondary to the Minds and other high-end AI's, while to the Tau Drones are just labour-saving units.

In Tau society, everyone has a function and role in running society. The Culture, as a post-scarcity society, is inherently hedonistic and "work" is something for people to do if they're bored.

Technologically... the Tau are advancing on their scale, but the Culture is regarded as one of the most powerful in science fiction, what with Gridfire and all that nastiness :sadnshocked:.

I was more questioning whether the Culture is a Potentual in the Tau,

Preponderence of drones, with advances

If they win(!?!), potentual to become that hedonistic with nothing to strive against?

A.I. taking over (for the greater good!)

this is more about where the Tau are going rather than where they are...

Again, I don't see it... Tau culture is so heavily based on rank structure and subservience to the Ethereals that such a reversal seems unlikely.

What you mentioned seemed more Matrix than Culture.

But I like the Use of Weapons.

Maybe eventually, if the Tau are not careful with how they employ Drones. Humanity in 40k already made that mistake once and got burned badly as a consquence. But at the moment Tau Drones are intelligent enough to be pets, but definitely not citizens. They do not appear to be sentient AIs. Of course, we really don't know that much about them. They could be a lot like Tachikomas from Ghost in the Shell, just on the verge of gaining self-awareness.

I was asking if the Tau Potentially could evolve along those lines...

I raised this point after reading posts on here about the abandonment of N'dras and it being the result of an A.I. rebellion.

This did not sit well with me,

as said above, drones are more like intelligent pets at present, and do not seem complex enough to rebel.

But the war with the machines has been done in the Imperium's history...

I thought a progression more like the Cultures in relationship to Drones seems more Tau...

Seems Benevolent but may be a conspiracy behind it,
as Ethereals and Vespids....

The culture although in detail may be wrong seem to share the 'mood' of the Tau....
