Default Drone question

Do drones that are mounted on a vehicle have to fire at the same target as the vehicle?

Yes, unless theirs a TL on the vehicle. While attached they fire as part of the vehicle.

Damn that BS! How does that work out balance and fluff-wise?

Balance: they're better than FW in combat anyway.

Fluff: Evidently their targetting systems aren't brilliant.

As for the fluff, they are still apparently controlled by the vehicle. I guess their target designation systems are controlled by the vehicle while their aiming systems is as normal. Being computers, I would have thought Drones would have had a BS of at least 4. But I guess the targeting systems aren't very sophisticated, despite the Tau's advanced technology. Perhaps they brought the AI systems from Invader Zim? "Erm..is it supposed to be stupid?" "It's not stupid, It's advanced". :

And while we're on the subject of drone/turret BS, do SMS have a perfect/very good BS because of their drone guiding technology (which hopefully isn't programmed by the same guy who did the drone aiming systems >) or do they simply ignore line of sight, using the vehicle/suit's BS?

Fluff wise I guess you could say the gunner designates the targets and the drones just shoot at it on their own.

As for the SMS, they use the vehicle's BS.

Lol I've been using the Devilfish's BS for attached Drones, I figure they're a weapon system, and you can destroy them w/ a 'Weapon Destroyed' result, so why not? Hmm I'll just keep this a dirty little secret ;D

It is expressively stated in the Drone entry that they use their own BS, even when firing as a part of a vehicle. So, using the vehicles BS is CHEATING.

And that`s Evil. Note the capital "E". >

Besides, Drone weapons are twin-linked, which basically means that they hit better than the average Firewarrior. Not bad, when you think about it.

Cheers,
-Bone
