Default How does this 1850pt. kroot mercenary army look?

How does this 1850pt. kroot mercenary army look? This is my first one so all advice is welcome! Note that a shaper must be taken with just about every group

HQ:

2 groups of 1 master shaper-86pt.
-4 kroot hound (2x2)
-hyperactive nymune organ

ELITE

1 group of 20 kroot headhunter kindred- 221pt.
-1 shaper

TROOPS

5 groups of 20 kroot carnivore kindred- 905pt.
-1 shaper per group

HEAVY SUPPORT

1 group of 10 kroot hunter kindred- 101pt.
-1 shaper

1 group of krootox- 272pt.
-13 kroot carnivore
-3 krootox
-1 shaper

1 group of krootox- 265pt.
-12 kroot carnivore
-3 krootox
-1 shaper

TOTAL- 1850pt.


Please rate and fix this army.

Where are the Eviscerators and meltas?

Also, no signature adaptations?

What about Blood of the Stalker or the Kroothawk Totem? Very, very potent ways to make the army work magic. Kroot merc armies tend to do two things: (A) get first turn, infiltrate, and get to fire and get to combat on the first turn and really do a lot of damage, take damage, but taper off with a victory much of the time (B) don't get first turn, get obliterated.

Big tip - Forget the KrootOX. Max out getting as many Kroot on the board with many, many Shapers. Shapers are your armor killers and Marine slayers. And don't under-estimate the power of Kroot vulture. Speed and volume is what the army is about, with lack of most things that balance an army. Kroot don't have balance, so it either works or it doesn't. Work towards maxing out the things that will work and should the dice roll your favor when it comes to mission rules and who goes first and reserves, etc, then praise be to the master shaper. Otherwise, prepare to lose the army.

o yea I forgot that they had an armory, and also can every shaper take stuff from the armory?

Absolutely. It's the reason you take them. The shapers "Shape" the kindred. Take a good long read of that armory and the special options that only the Kroot Merc stand alone list can take.

Mind you - don't go overboard, as the army can quickly become insanely expensive for your signatures and the like, and not gain much in terms of payoff. So keep her simple, keep her sweet, and be sure to take those key weapons and gear. Kroot need all the help they can get.

bad Idea, these guys are going to die, Keep teh IC rule and give them wings and Meltaguns, nice little dudes to pop tanks(which is insanely important in mercs)

and with all the spare points get some more kroot, maybe some vultures? Trackers sound appetising, or a nicebeefy hound pack maybe?

I suggest some vultures, jump troops are invaluable.

First of all, it's not a good idea to drop all your points into two Shapers just for a meltagun. Anti-tank is not a big deal with Kroot--they lack it overall. It's good to have meltas, but don't dedicate two master shapers to it. You're losing two ld10, which is very much needed.

You need a spearhead. Shaper + Squad + attached squad to beef numbers (ie, kroot / hounds, etc). Massive squad lead by the Shaper, and give that shaper the Blood of the stalker. It's important to have the best chance possible to get the first turn and attack. It they cannot make that first attack, they provide the valuable service of drawing a good portion of the fire to hope the rest of the squads don't get torn to ribbons. And we're looking at the 1850 point level here. This is where you'll have all these difficulties, unlike a small point game to start with.

personally I'd prefer my Meltas, they can be shoved into CC units for the LD if its really neccecary but I really think giving up on AT all together is what makes people loose, 1st turn assault is all well and good and yes it'd be lovely but thet leaves almost no AT, as illustrated in tonkas bat rep, any mehcanised army munches kroot.

Yeap, it does, but not both Shapers. There are key elements to making it work, especially at that 1850 level.

The bloodhawk totem is very important. The blood of the stalker is needed on your spearhead unit, which it would be good to have two of them.
Eviscerators are anti-tank and having 3 attacks with one is a good chance compared to a single bomb attack or melta shot. And if we have to talk about skimmers involving this, we both know how often a melta is going to be effective when it glances. Kroot are very unbalanced with this unfortunately. And as for the AT, the snipers are hard at work on that job for most avid Kroot players (transports, and rear armor obviously).

Kila - I'd highly recommend you start with a small combat patrol first. Play it a -lot- before you entertain the idea of purchasing this many Kroot.
