Default Teldar??????

ok, so me and my friend were playing eldar vs tau and noticed many things the same between the fighting style of the base units. We scanned the tau codex and noticed it is SO similiar to the "unique" eldar. Please clear up the major diffrences for me(not just unit diffs but fighting style). The Eldar mostly stay back and gun people down as do the Tau. He's getting upset about his so called "unique" fighting style being mimicked by this newer race.

eldar tend to be a lot lighter-armed and armoured, overall, with a good close-combat skill. doesn't sound like Tau to me...

tau are more rugged than eldar, more customizable, less rigid, slower, more shooty, much less assaulty, and can be more numerous if so wished.

Are really different in their possibilities; however, there is some overlap in tactics as you have seen.

Eldar are fast, well armed, have access to specialists of all types, have limited upgradablity, lots pf psychic abilities, and typically have a short range on their weaponry.
Tau are maneuverable, but not fast, extremely well armed, dnot' specialise in anything other than shooting, and Kroot are not neccesarily specialists, are highly upgradable, are as psychic as a retarded brick, and have quite nice ranges on their weapons.

I'm new to the Tau but I played Eldar for years and the one huge difference is HTH- Tau must avoid it as a major tactic but the Eldar have troops that can kill ( just about ) anybody in HTH. V4 has changed the way Eldar must be played but only to the extent that old tactics are being changed to be used in V4. - Banshees with an exarch with an executioner and a squad of striking scorpions with an exarch with a power claw are still going to be positioned to get into HTH, (unless you don't know how to use them) .
If you tool up your Eldar to be shooty and take no CC specialists, it would still be difficult to match the firepower of a well commanded Tau force- who by the way have NO option of powerfull HTH troops or elites, no fast transports, and no psychic powers.

give us an example of the lists are you and your friend using.

I'm submitting that analogy to the general public, feel free to slip it into your everyday conversations.

Eldar, hmm, they can throw a punch. They can throw a hell of a punch. But they hve to be standing really close to you to do it. Your huge Railguns, Pulse rifles and similar are going to be able to deal out all sorts of nastiness by the time those prancing, fleeting gits reach you. Keep them away and you'll be fine.

I'd amend that to : able to deal out all sorts of nastiness by the time those prancing, fleeting gits reach you. Keep them in front of your guns and you'll be fine

also, their kind of like tau in the aspect that both tau and eldar have a lot of skimmers and both armies try to keep them moving to get all penetrating hits downgraded to glancing hits.
