Tau vs. dark angels

Our game club had recently acquired a new marine player. Since the addition he had fought 4 games and was undefeated, including a massacre against one of our best marines players. He challenged me to a fight calling out my Tau, it had been a while since I have used Tau but I accepted the challenge. I was planning on making an appearance with my
Tau at my game store RTT so I wanted to try out my tourney list…

Shas O Ka, Commander Sunfire's Hunter Cadre
HQ
Shas' O KA, missile pod, Plasma, Multi tracker, hardwired drone
controller
Ka's bodyguard
X 2 crisis suits, missile pods, plasmas and multi tracker

Troops
fire warrior team white
X 12 fire warriors
Devilfish transport w/ decoy launchers, multitracker
Fire warrior team black
X 12 fire warriors
Devilfish transport w decoy launchers and multitracker
Fire warrior yellow
X 10 fire warriors
Devilfish transport w decoy launchers and multitracker

Crisis team
X 3 suits missile pod, plasma riffle, team leader w hardwire drone

Dark angels deployment.

Starting on my left, full dev sporting 4 missile launchers held strong
in some building ruins, behind them a bike sqd. The center of the table
a razorback with a veteran unit inside just in front of them a jump pack
unit along side them the venerable dred. on the far right side a twin
las missile launcher dread. All terminator units would arrive deep
strike.

Tau deployment,

Again from left to right, devilfish black next to that devilfish white
sandwiched in between my shas o commander sunfire with his body guard.
The center devil fish yellow and far right my broadsides and both
hammerheads. My stealth suits and crisis team would arrive via deep strike

Random mission Take and hold Gamma Level, no night fight rules no escalation

Marines won first turn and took it.

Marines turn 1.
Movement, the twin las dread moves out from cover the jump pack sqd
moved towards the center objective and the razorback droops off its
passengers and heads to my left.

Shooting

the razor back stuns devilfish black, everything else misses or fails
to do damage.

Tau turn one.

Movement
I move both fish white and back straight forward and drop off
the fire warriors, my hq moves out of hiding. fish yellow heads toward
the objective while both hammerheads move to my left and the broadsides
tread forward.

Shooting
broadsides stun the twin las dread.
Combine shooting from both white and black fish kill 3 marines out of
the devastator sqd, which cause them to retreat. Everything else was out
of range or had no LOS.

The hq uses its jump back move to hid behind nearby terrain.

Marines turn 2

The devs auto rally, Belial and his termies deeps strikes near my broadsides.

Movement
assault marines move in the center ruins followed by the vet
unit.


Shooting,
Belial and his termins target my broadsides and kill a shield
drone. The devs target fish yellow stunning it. The razorback downs
fish white, both gun drones survive.


Tau turn 2

Well a precise deep strike meant that my broadsides are forced to deal
with the new threat almost alone. I roll my reserves and get none.
Movement, fish black retreats to starting position, yellow drops off its
fire warriors and heads to the right flank. I also move hammer head 1
back to provide some fire support for my broadsides. Hammy 2 continues
to fly to the left flank to get los on those devs. Fire warrior black
moves forward.

Shooting, hammy one stuns the twin las dred. The broadsides kill one of
Belial termies, but yellow fish downs two of them. Hammy two kills 1
devastator and the fire warriors take down another two devs.

Marines turn 3

He rolls for his reserves and his Chaplain and his termies come in…
The other terminators with the chappy deep strikes the center of my
deployment zone, they land between fire warrior yellow and my hq.
Movement the vet continue to head for the objective, Belial moves up to
close in on the broadsides. The bike sqd moves out to engage
fire warrior black.

Shooting
the dev shoot and shake hammy 2, the bikes flame and bolter 4
four of fire warrior black, plasma pistols from the jump packers shake
fish yellow, terminators kill five fire warriors out of team yellow.
Belial and his guys take down another shield drone from broadsides.

Tau turn 3.
I get my crisis team on the board, the land on my fight flank a foot
behind belial.
Movement
Fish yellow decides to head to my right flank, so does hammy 2,
while hammy one moves to trade places with hammy 2, fish black moves
forward to engage the bike unit. As does the shas o. And his men.

Shooting,
Broadsides take down two more termies. My crisis team target
the twin las dread and stun it. My shas o and his men target the just
arrived termies and take down three, while fire warrior white helps out
and takes down another termie. Fire warrior yellow kills a jump packer.
And fire warrior black along with its fish take down three bikers.
The shas o jumps away from the termies landing on a hill, but one shied
drone dies in the risky maneuver.

Marines 4
Marines have taken loses but are now close to my units and holding the
objective.
Movement

Belial moves with in charge range of the broadsides. Chappy
decides that chasing after my hq would be a trap and heads for fire
warrior white. The vets move towards fish yellow.

Shooting
chappy and his men shoot up fire warrior white making the flee.
Jump packer fire on yellow but a plasma over heats and kills a
jump packer. Devs stun hammy 1.

Combat
Belial charges the broadsides, the bikers charge fish black.
Belial wounds a broadside and the broadsides kill the last termie!
Combat score is tied. Bikers try to attach melt bombs to the agile skimmer but fail.

[b]Tau turn 4.[b/]
My stealth’s show up and land near the venerable dread. Fire warrior white
continues to run

Movement
I use the skimmer hump maneuver to trade spots with hammys, and fire warrior black moves between the bikes and the devs. Fish black moves back to help out with
the chappy and his termies. The shas o moves backward away from the
Chaplin but still in rapid fire range of the chaplin.

Shooting,
fire warriors down the bikes to two men, crisis team fires
some fusion blasters killing the venerable dread. Fire warrior yellow
takes down another jump packer, crisis team stuns the dread. Hq wound
the chaplain and kill the rest of the termies.

Combat Belial takes a wound but kills a broadside. The remaining one then flees off the table.

Marines turn 5,

2 units are holding the objective but the tau have dominated in the two
turns now the marines will now push back.
Movement
Bikes engage the crisis team. Vet unit chases down fish yellow
Belial chases the crisis team. Chappy moves to engage the fleeing fire
warrior white.

Shooting

bikes take a few down from fire warrior black, the devs aim their rockets at
hammy 1 shaking it. Vet targets fish yellow but miss with the melta
gun.

Combat
The chappy charges fire warrior white and destroys them.
Bikes charge fire warrior black and run them down.

Tau 5
Well my opponent might be a down allot of models but he is still holding the objective. And he had just taken out two teams of fire warriors in one turn! I cannot get sloppy or I will hand this game to him. I need to starting taking out his scoring units..

Movement stealth move to engage the devs.
Fish black heads towards the bikers, shas o jumps out to engage the
chaplin, crisis team heads off Belials path while hammy 2 lines up for
yet another go at the twin las dread. Yellow fish moves behind the
razorback.

Shooting, hq wound the chaplain once more, stealth’s destroy all of the
devs, crisis team takes down belial, and hammy 2 blows up the twin las
dread (finally). Yellow fish blows up the razor back from the back.

Marines turn 6.

Bikes engage the stealth’s, while the chaplain heads for the crisis team,
the jump packers secure the object as does the vets.

Shooting,

The vets take a last pop shot at the elusive devilfish yellow and miss once again

Combat
The bikes charge my stealth’s and kill 2, they flee but are run
down by the bikes.
Chaplin misses the charge sealing his fate.

Tau turn 6
Most of the marines are dead, but I had lost my stealth’s which I was
planning to light up the vet sqd with and secure the objective but I had to make new plans.

Movement
I move every skimmer to the objective, the hq surround the lone chaplain
for the last time. And the crisis teams moves toward the center for fire
support.

Shooting

the combine efforts of hammy 1 and black fish kill 2 jump packers
rendering them non scoring, hammy 2 and yellow fish along with crisis
team take down 2 of the vets making them non scoring well. Hammy 1 is
my scoring unit for the victory.

The night is late and with no scoring units and every unit either destroyed or halved, my opponent concedes...we don't bother to count
victory point but by my estimation the final score
Tau 1750
Marines 800

Victory for tau.

Final thoughts; A well fought game, my opponent saw every trap I had set for him and went for something else, primarily my fire warriors. I don’t blame him either the fire warriors were killing termies, bikes, you name it. Also I never thought my broadsides could wound a terminator Capt twice even!! That was pure luck, I made some major errors in the deployment phase thank the greater good for Tau mobility which ultimately won me the game. Well I hope you enjoyed reading this.

nice. I like the pictures too. That Marine guy looks like he had horrible strategy in that game. Good job and keep up the good work!

Wow, nice battle, and thanks for using pictures - it really helps.

But... you kinda cheated some :shifty: (according to your text.) But you did very well compared to that marine player.

The fish was shaken my bad...it did not shoot.


As for the marines retreating...he told me his normal marines took ld tests...
