Default Ethereal as HQ

I can't find the rule on this in the codex, so i decided to ask. Can an ethereal take the place of the mandatory HQ unit, instead of the shas'o or shas'el crisis suit?

No, the battlesuit commander is still mandatory. Even in a Farsight Enclave army it's mandatory.

Doesn't make much sense, but eh...

Yes indeed. You're required to take at least one Battlesuit commander. But remember, you have two HQ slots, both of which can be Battlesuit commanders, or you can have one as an Ethereal.

I wouldn't take the ethereal. It sounds good, but I know from experience that in a pinch an enemy will try to make you run off the map by killing your ethereal. Because of the 7 Ld on FWs (or 10 Ld using a C&C node on a nearby Crisis HQ) it may force you to run using the Failure (dead Etheral) rule and ruin your upper hand in the battle. One of my friends had Tau and I always did that to him and it normally made a couple squads run, thus giving me time get in melee next turn with my tyranids.

Yeah I hate that, ethereals are useless (especially compared to the battlesuit commander, who's mandatory anyway), they might as well not even be in the codex.

Only shadowsun does that, the reg. C&C node is used only for target priority tests.

I don't like the ethereal that much either. Their just barely worth the points, bu they, a fearless unit of FW can be quite useful at times.

Correction: A fearless unit of BS4 FW can be quite useful at times.

BS4 Fire warriors is the only good thing on Ethereal. I'm used him once and I must say he is unusable.
