Default Gue'Vesa questions

Yes, use the search engine to find something but after doing so, I'm still confused. What's the deal with gue'vesa? Are they allowed heavy weapon squads? I've read the rules and I keep thinking of them as Imperial Guard that just happen to be with the Tau force...is that a good assumption or what?

Not at all.

The Gue'vesa are the decendants of humans who live on worlds that have been annexed /conquered by the Tau Empire. Many of these people had grandparents or such that were either deserters from the guard, or guardsmen who were left behind during evacuations, but the Gue'vesa themselves are no more 'Imperial Guard' than the Hive Gangs from Codex Armageddon were.

They're humans living within the Empire, and often used in warfare with the Tau, but they are there to use their strengths to compliment the main Tau force, not just to grant Tau acces to all the IG units.

My subtle diagram disagrees with you.
your "subtle" diagram contains Optimus Prime and Proffessor Farnsworth, it's heresy in it's own right!
Any similarities between your reality and mine are purely coincidental...

So...they can't use heavy weapons squads? (I'll probably just have them allied or something in the long run...write up some fluff)

There are two types of Gue'vesa that are probably confusing you:

1) The Chapter Approved Gue'vesa that you can include in a Tau Empire force. This is just a squad of infantry with lasguns that you can give 2 pulse rifles/carbines and emp grenades to.

2) Gue'vesa based on the IG codex. These are composed entirely of Gue'vesa and play like normal IG, so you get heavy weapons and such just like any other guard army. It'll be the modeling and your fluff that separate them. There are many articles on this on the IG board, including a couple with alternate descriptions for some of the more Imperial entries that make them more Gue'vesa-y.

I suppose both are feasable. One being a regiment of IG turning to the Greater Good, the other are the Tau Auxillia.
Id imagine a Tau force hesitant to break up a regiment, as they do that they would probably antagonise their new allies.

There are also other Gue'vesa. There's the ones in IA3: The Taros Campaign, which are very similar to the Chapter Approved ones only a little worse (fewer upgrading possibilities). There's also the mining militia as well, but I don't know much about them.

Also, check out the Tempus Fugitives website, specifically the Damocles Gulf Crusade campaign weekend PDF. Although it is by no means official, check out some of the cool Gue'vesa stuff in there (there's a cool Gue'vesa unit for Tau armies, and a new Imperial Guard list with loads of Tau-ish goodness).

Thanks for the help. I'm still looking, it's just it was rather confusing. I mean, there were two sets of rules and stuff...

I for one will probably do it as Tau Auxilia...

There is only one set of official rules for them, and those are the Chapter Approved ones. The rules are as you see there, it's just a squad with lasguns, with the option to include pulse rifles/carbines. Nothing else, no heavy weapons, no heavy weapon teams, just a squad of guardsmen.

The rules in Imperial Armour are Forgeworld rules, though they're pretty much the same as the Chapter Approved rules.

Miners can only really be used if you're playing a Taros game though... although they are pretty neat. Only thing is they're a close combat unit in a Tau army... doesn't really fit in. Still, hooray for Ogryns!
