Default Stealth Team

I just bought and painted my first stealth team of 3 earlier in the week. I am going to be having a 1250 point battle against Necrons over the weekend and I am curious if it would be worth it to take them against such an opponent. I am anxious to try them out but almost feel like it would be a waste of points against troops that can easily come back to life. I bought the unit since I predominatly go up against Tyranids and Elder but never considered them against necrons. If anyone could provide a little insight or perhaps share their experiences with them against Necrons I would greatly appreciate it.

The advantage of a Stealth Team vs Necrons is a lot of shots for the models. However, every time you lose one wound (as opposed to the Crisis 2) your shots go down. I'd be aiming to phase out the Necrons anyway. Fusion Blasters will instant kill Necrons though, so if you markerlight your team and give them fusion blasters you're pretty much guaranteed 3 Necron deaths each turn. But how useful is that to you? I guess it depends how many proper Necrons your opponent fields, i.e. how many you need to kill to get him to phase out.

Except that's my bad, because I just checked and you can only get 1 fusion blaster per 3 anyway (I don't give my stealthsuits fusion blasters so I had to look it up :-X)

To be honest, if you have something more appropriate for the points (like Crisis teams with Fusion blasters and/or plasma rifles [for the low AP]) I'd use that instead. Burst cannons, despite being strength five and putting out 9 shots for 3 models, probably won't cut it against Necrons.

Riburn3,

I'd save Stealth Suits for when you're fighting a GEQ army, with a lot of infantry with bad armour saves. This is truly where Stealth Suits excel, because they can put out a ton of Burst Cannon shots for a reasonably cheap price. Against Necrons, a bunch of Burst Cannons isn't going to do much at all. Burst Cannons provide very little Armour Piercing, enabling the Necrons to still take their impressive 3+ armour save, and they'll get to use their We'll Be Back special rule everytime they take a casualty.

If you're fighting Necrons, I'd recommend you replace the Stealth Suits with some Crisis Suits tooled out with Plasma Rifles and Fusion Blasters (like Circus Freak mentioned), which both do wonders against Necrons. If you can get to within 12" of a Necron squad with a few Crisis Suits (Deepstriking can achieve this quite easily) you'll do a lot of harm.

--Other units I'd recommend are a Commander configured in the same way as the normal Crisis Suits (Plasma Rifle, Fusion Blaster, Multi-Tracker), an Ionhead or two, and Sniper Drones (their access to AP3 Railguns should be able to do some decent damage). A tip for you is to avoid firing at the Monolith if he has any, as they don't have the Necron special rule. Target the Warriors, Destroyers, Heavy Destroyers, etc. and you should be able to achieve a Phase Out without having to worry about the Monolith.

Good strategies/tips. I actually bought a sniper team specifically for fighting necrons/marines and a good chunk of my crisis suits will be equiped with plasma/fusion guns. As for the stealth team, looks like they will have to make an appearance against the Eldar later in the week.

I once played a guy at a gaming club full of younger/less experienced/both gamers and this particular chap had a 1500point Necron army with three Monoliths that was undefeated within the club. I managed to beat him by the second turn. How? Phase out. The monoliths draw so much fire but it's so much easier to just kill the Necrons. And with three monoliths, you can imagine he didn't have many Necrons for me to kill =D

Defintely keep the stealths to face eldar, nids, or gaurd troops. I have 6 and they do so much damage against these low armoured foe, but have a shas'vre with fusion blasters so this means i can fare well against most troops.

Please make your posts more readable... ):

I've set up one of my Stealths with a fusion blaster, more for a deadly surprise than anything, because at 12 (JSJ to 18) inches, your stealth field probably isn't going to protect the little guys. That being said, I've isolated tanks with them before.
