Default Remora Drone Fighter

Being a fairly new 40K player I was wondering what people thought of the new Remora Drone Fighter and how you would use it?

Below is a link to the info on the Forge World web site

I would not use this unit... 110 pts is way too steep for such a unit. If i desperatedly wanted some highly mobile markerlights in my assault-choices, I would get me 2 tetras with better BS for the same points. At least they do not come in on my enemies turn where they cannot even use their markerlights to supprt the army as a whole.

So maybe as a gimmick in fun-oriented games with many many points per side, but not in a regular game.

Thanks for the reply.

I am not familiar with the rules for the Tetra so can't comment.#

The reason I thought they would be good is that they are Flyers which are hit only on a 6!

They also have a Stealth Field Generator which makes they difficult to hit especially when taking into account the extra 12" range for firing at a Flyer.

Throw in a couple of Seeker Missiles and I thought it would be pretty useful!

I am thinking of using a couple in my 3000pts Apocalypse game.

Tetra's are basicly mobile markerlights that are just over half the cost of a Remora.

Yes, while the remora has excellent defense, it has little offense. Burst cannons and the like are a dime in a dozen with the Tau army. Even if you can place it behind an enemy tank and get a rear shot, it's likely to be shot down because you would be very close to it.

Remoras are not well suited to a ground attack role. They'll do much better for you as a Fighter-Interceptor ... which is what they're intended for.

Even though the Burst Cannon aren't on an AA Mount?

Well I have to say I like these guys. In my last battle I tested them and I have to say... if it was not for them I would have lost. It truns out that it was a draw but without them I would have lost. Great unit IMO.

Just adding my 2 cents, I rather like them.
Ill eventually purchase a set or make em out of disk like lever on the Hieneken mini keg.
One thing I havent seen mentioned is the range of their guns. I did hear that burst cannon are a dime a dozen and yes they are. but those are the standard, In FW rules release they described the Ramoras bust cannons as Long barreled. When I looked up the long barrel in Imp armour III book, it gives its range as = to its own markligher. so it its the case, it can fly behind ememy lines and be a real thorn since it can stay out of range of most infantry weapons and pick on the troops. ( after all its not really well armed to be a vehicle killer) The final rules release for it may change the type of burst cannon but till then use the long barreled stats.
