Default Alternate crisis-suit models

I recently decided to redo my entire tau-army and wanted to include some optical highlights. As I regularly field about 14 XV8s and XV88s I wanted those to be said highlights. First I considered conversions, but honestly, the GW suits are rather "lacking" and no conversion would change the "core design" that I do not like.
So I looked for alternate models in the wide ranges of Japanese mechas. But unfortunately the smallest model I found was about 10cm tall, way too big.

So I settled to scratchbuild some suits myself (we will see wether or not this turns out OK ;D), putting my regular suits aside if and only if I do get more out of this than just some fun cutting and gluing ;D.
Up to now I am still only contemplating everything (I recently had to move and so I am low on cash for the hobby for some time), doing the same GW does: Taking designs from everything in reach.

So my question is this: Did anyone here ever look into alternate models for battlesuits or could point me in the right direction where to get some inspiration? I could need an otaku right now... my knowledge on mechas is limited to the Transformers, and those do not really make for good suits, do they?

Please post any link, piece of information, pic of an actual model or any other input to this topic. It will be greatly appreciated.

Greetz, Trogdor

Forge world released few XV8(X) models.
They cost a bit more than GW ones but some are quite nicely done.

I am more than aware of Forgeworld. Thx nonseless.

Just to make it clear: I am looking for models that look less "GW" like. Anyone knows about Heavy Gear? If the models would not be too small (4-5cm) I would use those for conversions...

I quite like the more "military" feel to the suits. Opinions?

@ Mage: Looking forward ;D

FireToads from AT-43 could make a good broadside replacement.

Repainting them and puting few tau bits on them should do.

i have been looking into this myself as i wanted some battlesuit sized zaku II (mobile suit gundam) parts for a conversion, most stuff seems too big or too small though

Well, this is the game where impracticality is the way of the land.

I actually had a lot of succes making a unit of XV-2 battle suits. I just took three of the new plastic stealth suits, hacked off their heads, put shadowsuns helmet on top and placed missile pods on the suits back. Then you can replace the burst cannon with any crisis weapon that takes your fancy. Mount them on 40mm bases and you're set. They look cool, its obvious what they are and they have a much more streamlined and practical look than standard suits. Also they cost a lot less!

Well... There are a few anime that could be checked out if you needed inspiration...

Tachikoma from Ghost in the Shell would make a fun little project.
Appleseed
Gundam (Those two are obvious, I've never really been big on them myself)
Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion (Check out the Knightmare Frame suits, lots of ideas there)

And, of course, Evangelion (Though I thought you were still going for a blockier feel?)
