Default DoW "Drone Harbinger" in 40k?

Something I've thought about before, that's most likely had a few threads made about it in the past...how many people would use a drone harbinger if it were available in 40k as a fast attack choice? Just like a devilfish with no transport capacity, but the ability to drop about 16 gun drones? Maybe an interesting option like marker drones in the cupolas? It'd give you yet another good reason to use all those gun drones you have lying around from box sets without having to field them in a wimpy 6-drone team.

Of course there are drawbacks though...no transport, probably costly (rivaling a hammerhead?)...maybe a bad idea? Or maybe it'd be a better idea to just make vespid useful instead. :P

If you think about it, it'd essentially be a devilfish that carried only gun drones. Since GDs can move 6" and 6" it seems really pointless to me. There'd have to be something more enticing.

Hy idea for the Drone Harbinger was this:

A squad of 4-8 Gun Drones may take a Drone Harbinger Devilfish. This Devilfish may only be equipped with a hull-mounted SMS at +20 and not hull-mounted gun drones. Wargear may be taken as normal.

If the gun drone squadron has suffered casualties in the previous turn and embarks into the Harbinger during the movement phase, roll a D6 for each casualty suffered. A roll of 4+ "revives" the gun drone (similar to Necron's "We'll be Back").

How about this.

Special Character:

Drone Harbinger: 200 pts + devilfish upgrades

HQ

AV: 13 12 10

weapons : 2 gun drones and a burst cannon.

Special rules:

Drone controller: Gun drones can be taken as Troop and Fast Attack choice. Heavy gun drones became elite and heavy support choice.

Advanced Drone Control System: As long Drone Harbinger not destroyed, All drones became fearless.

I like the idea of it repairing drones, like Necrons.

Given how much trouble WBB causes, perhaps giving all Drones within 6" Feel No Pain is a better move.

That sounds much better , add the drones must remain with in X inches of the Harbinger to keep the "Feel No Pain" active. That would keep some of the feel of DoW

Also I think it should be a 2 full sized units of drones can be carried by the Harbinger. Cost should start around 180 pts before vehicle upgrades (basically one free drone squadron). Any more than that and I do not see any real tactical advantage to it.

i like the idea of it, however i would not use it, im happy with just sending drones in large packs up the flancks so the large "mob" effect scare the enemy into shooting them instead of the firewarriors and tanks comming up the centre.

and isn';t there a tigershark that cna carry drones? or is that seekermissiles?

Another idea if you field Drone Harbinger all drone squadrons get "Without Numbers" rule.

warriorchris: there is a tiershark that can drop a fair amount of drones onto the battle field. It also has ion cannons and a couple of seeker missiles.

On topic: I think the Feel No Pain is a better stand in for the WWBB rule. Two full drones would be a good addition to the Harbinger's carring capacity. You could also have it be made into a heavy support and make normal drones two points cheaper, or some other bonus like that, increased leadership, etc.
