hey all. I'm new to tau. just bought some models the other week. so far i have a commander and 2 six strong fire warriors with pulse rifles. I gave the commander a plasma rifle and CiB. as well as the shield generator and multi target, also he has the stimulant injector. i plan to add some pariahs, more fire warriors and a hammerhead. Any advice from a tau vet would the great.
thanks Rune |

I don't know if I coun't as a Vet but you should add some broadsides and sniper drones. And definatley a hammer head with the Missle option for secondary weapon I mean whats not to love with that 24" range AND imune to night fire rules and put the rail gun on it that is the only way to go.

Well, what type of list do you want? Mech, Static, or a mixture thereof? I myself prefer to have Broadsides and Sniper Drones over Hammerheads, as well as a nice mix of Battlesuits. It all comes down to how you play. You may also want to look at Vassal(do a search; you'll find a biiiig thread on it). It's been very helpful with helping me decide what I want to use and I've lost many prejudices against units.

hehe. I think he just doesn't know how to spell Piranha. :P
Good to have another Tau Player. You might want to look into the different styles of play that the Tau have. These are Static, Hybrid, and Mech. BE |

Personally I play a fully mech force and love it, However I have seen some very powerfull Hybrid builds. I guess you just have to decide on how you want to play,
Mech gives you manuverability and survivability and Static gives you Overwhelming fire power, Hybrid a balance of both. If you are going mech I would suggest the Hammerhead, Pirhana's and Devilfish for the FW, Hybrid I would recommend some broadsides, Kroot (brilliant) and devilfish for the firewarriors, Static, Broadsides, kroot, pathfinders and sniper drones Welcome and Happy hunting

The only armies pinning might work against are other Tau armies, IG (though with their mass of units it won`t matter), and Eldar/DE. So, pinning isn`t really a tactic you should count on. Even the option of lowering the Ld of an enemy unit for the purposes of pinning tests via Markerlights is in 99/100 cases a bad idea - just use the markers to kill them off, not to pin them. Quote:
I assume you already have a Codex and the Rulebook, since they will be necessary to play the game ![]() IŽd advise you to read through all the stickies here on the boad, they should answer most of your questions; if anything remains unclear, you`re welcome to ask questions, and we`ll try to answer them as good as possible (but please not another discussion about Chaos Tau ).As for tipps I can give you right now, there`s only really one: Play Combat Patrol. Small, 400 point games are ideal to get the feel of 40K and its rules (assuming that the Tau are your first 40K army), and it gives you a glimpse of how the Tau work. Furthermore, you can test different units, and decide on a play style you`d like to try out. Cheers, -Bone |
