Default Decoy Tactics

anyone put decoying into practice?

heres what i

mean by decoying, using another unit to keep an assualting enemy away from your more

imporant units..

and if you have done it, any ideas on the best way to do it

with tau?

ive done it once before in the few games ive played,
<br /

>heres what happened,

i had 2 squads of 6 fw, and one squad of 4 drones.. the

first fw squad was tied up by 5 eldar banshees, and my 2nd squad was 7" away.. i

managed to move my drones to the opposite side of the banshees so they'd have to

assualt the drones if/when they won the current assualt, keeping them away from my 2nd

squad of fw, and giving me long enough to reposition them.. luckily my tyranid allies (

dont ask, it was just a random game) came to help

Yes I have...I had 2 Crisis

suits behind a forest to the right, a lone Tau Ethereal (bait!!) with a shield drone in

the center hiding behind a downed Devilfish next to 5 Pathfinders, 15 Kroot in the forest

that the crisis suits were hiding behind, and a Hammer Head to the far left with a rail

gun and LoS to the Ethereal. I was trying to lure a 10 strong Squad of BA Honour Guard.

It worked!
He went for the Pathfinders, killed them all and was left standing

in the open ground ;D He was obviously thinking that he wouldn't do so well!<br /

>The Kroot moved round behing them so they couldn't retreat, the Ethereal ran<br /

>away towards the Hammer Head, the Crisis suits moved out from behind the forest and

gunned down several of them, the Kroot opened fire and so did the railgun. ;D

A good tau decoy unit is always pathfinders, as

most opponents i play seem to like attacking them - possibly cos they are accompanied

with an armoured vehicle!

This may sound strange and dangerous but broadsides

are also very good as decoys. Armed with drones they can take alot of hits increasingly

annoying an opponent so they forget all about the other units and focus on thee

broadsides. Allowing the by far better crisis and stealth battlesuits to take out random

targets before they make it into assault.

This mainly works because any

sensible commander would place them at the back of the field, so if u leave a direct

route to them the enemy come swarming.
Only works cos broadsides are such an

attractive proposition in destroying.

heh if the enemy doesnt take out the

broadsides, they already know whats gonna happen next turn

hmm thats an

interesting idea actually, i wouldve put broadsides at the back and layers and layers

troops infront..

Yes it could work, but the thing is it would be hard to make up the points cost if the Broadsides were killed.

Boradsides as decoys, sounds familiar...
Broadsides are excellent bait, who in their right mind will leave them alive?
You may want to be careful about how obvious you make this, "Hmm, nothing in front of those broadsies, shall we kill them?" as apoosed to "Not this one again, red carpet to the broasides lined with crisis suits."
Maybe make an obviously stupid deployment and movement error, put the broadsides behind the hammerhead and move the hammerhead. Open the door and they shall come in.

Hunter out.

anyone who's not overly worried about losing 2-3 people a turn, and can see easier squads to kill...anyone whos' merely trying to get to an objective...lotsa reasons i can see for ignoring broadsides
