---JETBIKE---

Mockingbird - 140pts (Vibro, S.Can, Holofield).
---VYPER---

(the unit names below are the proxies for the game)

Note: I only started logging the game during Wargamer's Turn 1.

Terrain, with deployment. All ruins are size 2, all forests size 3.

Commander's Notes: I think that the deployment for me was absolutely crucial. Since he is wanting to get into CC and fast, by denying him one whole flank and making 1/2 his troops walk/ride, I can seperate his force into two parts each of which can be dealt with seperatley, using my superior firepower and mobility.

Notes: My Landspeeders are Pirhana, and his second squad is in the top of the bottom-right woods, though they are hard to spot.

We rolled for first turn, and I won!

Turn 1 Tau: I zipped forwards with my skimmers towards his troops in the bottom right, to get SMS range. My battlesuits jumped across the rocks (though one rolled three 1's for DT) and my stealths ran into the forest. I then unleashed a hail of fire, destroying the entire front squad with a combination of Submunissions and SMS. My pirhana speed forward, and hide in the ruins.

Turn 1 Eldar: With a full 300 points just decimated, he runs his three lone guys with brightlances forwards to shoot my tanks, along with the Solitaire. His troops in the bottom right jump/skimm through the woods towards my Stealth Suits. His shooting is largely innefcetive, just shaking my railhead. And his solitaire was just out of 12" range of my DF, which, apparantley, cost him the game.

After Turn 1:

Turn 2 Tau: Confident from my earlier success, I sped my Pirhanas forward farther and move my skimmers around a bit. The Stealths ran towards the now-advancing enemy. I forgot to roll for reserves > but oh well. Shooting, I shot 3 FB's at the Mockingbird and did nothing. My P-Drones then shot 6 pulse shots at it and managed to shake it (damned holo-fields). With SMS, Markerlights, and pulse fire, I killed his solitaire (not that I know what it does, but since it couldn't shoot and he said he lost, I figured it was important). Only one Bright-lance guy was left. My Stealths shot the harlies charging the forest, and killed 2, not enough to force LD. Unfortunatley, when they were jumping away, 2 of them died from Dangerous Terrain.

Eldar Turn 2: Now severely weakend, he shot his brightlance at my Railhead and managed to immobilize it (I should have moved, but forgot). His Eldar charged into my forest, and disembarked from the Venom, killing my lone Stealth. His Mockingbird ran far, far away to the bottom of the map to escape my deadly Pirhana. (Lesson here kids: Fish are stronger than Birdies). Of course, they massacered my poor stealth suit, and consolidated out of the woods.

After Turn 2:

Tau Turn 3: Unable to reach the mockingbird, my Pirhanas settled for chasing after the Venom. My drones arrived from orbit, landing right behind the lone brightlance-guy. My DF readjusted itself to better face the oncoming troops. In shooting, the Pirhannas managed to destroy the Venom by rolling double 5's on an AP roll. Various shooting took the mime squad (small one that had dismebarked from Venom and was in the lead), then nailed the last guy with an SMS. Using the markerlights of my FW's and thier shooting, i managed to kill the Great Harlequin. The Drones killed the brightlance guy.

Eldar Turn 3: Here Wargamer's comback begins. His Master Mime arrives, right next to my commander. His now-unshaken Mockingbird comes back to decimate my Pirhanas. The Mockingbird, using a "Vibro-Cannon", kills one pirhana and stunns another. The Master Mime charges into CC, killing my Shas'O and consolidating into th enext :'( using some special weapon rules and such.

After Turn 3:

Tau Turn 4: Now wary of the Mime, I run my FW's as far away as possible (not far enough as we shall see). My tanks tank-shock the Eldar unit in a desperate attempt to get it to go away, but to no avail. My lone un-stunned pirhana zooms to shoot the Mockingbird, succeeding and taking off the Vibro-Cannon. Shooting takes the Harlie squad down to the leader dude. In my CC, my commander dies.

Eldar Turn 4: The Mime runs towards my firewarriors, ending up killing one with shooting then charging and killing 2. Since My I is 2 and his is 6, theres no way for me to flee, and I die. His Mockingbird uses its Shuricannon to kill my un-damaged Pirhana. The lone harlie left charges my drones, but the combat is a draw.

After Turn 4:

Note: there are no trees because they kept getting in the way, so we agreed to remove em.

Turn 5 Tau: Suspecting he had some grenades or such, I ran all my tanks as far away from the Mime as I could. My now un-stunned Pirhana ran over to his Mockingbird and Fusioned it. No effect. The drones from all the Pirhanas pulse'd it. Took of the Shrui-cannons, but that doens't count for VP. I shot a railgun at it. No effect (except stuns/etc). Knowing I had to kill that Mime, I sent my Railhead SMS at it and inflicted one wound. My DF SMS/BC'd it to no effect. My Ionhead SMS'd it, and killed it. Using my TL, I shot the Ioncannon at the Mockingbird and finally managed to kill it. In combat, the Harlie didn't manage to injure my drones (even with a power weapon), and my drones killed it. Game over.

VP:

Me: 1500
Him: 793
Margin: 707
Percent: 47

Just shy of my First Crushing Victory. Overall, a very good game, and I think I played quite well, denying his flank and making him come to me, splitting up his forces. I did get very lucky though in getting first turn and having his Solitaire out of combat range.

Major Mistakes:

Not moving the shaken hammerhead. Might have saved 80 VP or so, the difference between a Solid and Crushing Victory.

Leaving my men close to each other, which allowed the Mime to consolidate right into the next one.

Hope you enjoyed my report. It was a fun battle.

I very much enjoyed this report, and am curious as to what this VASSAL program is.

Let me know as I'd really enjoy playing either you or Wargamer in cyberspace.

Very nice, really good pictures. Didn't the Eldar guy have a "veil of tears" (2D6 to see?)? I though they were essential equipment.

@israfel: go to General 40k, look for the VASSAL thread.
@Dfrg.msc: This is Wargy's house rule Harlequins, not the GW Eldar harlies. ;D

Actually, it's a combination of Citadel Journal, plus the machinations of Eldar Online. Rasmus (who is the Great Harlequin of the internet) played heavily in making the army.

Anyway, some of the highlights that make the Harlequins super-scary:

Domino Fields: 4+ Cover save at all times, plus you need 6s to hit in Assault. This ensured the Master Mime couldn't be touched in Melee.

Harlequin's Kiss: This is the real one. Wounds on 2+, and a roll of 6 To Wound means your opponent is killed outright if they fail their save. Ouch!

Riveblades: These are fun. They're a Power Weapon with the same "Instant Kill" ability as the Harlequin's Kiss! It was this ability that tore down both the Shas'O and Shas'El.

It was indeed a good game. Unfortunately for me, a combination of bad luck (not getting first turn, bad Fleet roles, not getting the Master Mime Turn 2...) and poor deployment caused me a lot of pain. I really needed everything surging up the Left and into the vehicles. If I'd have got the Solitaire in, I could have done some damage with Haywire grenades, and hopefully pulled off a Blitz Attack. Indeed, if I'd have gotten a 5 or 6 for my Fleet, I'd have had him on the Shas'O turn 1!

Still, perhaps next time I'll fare better.

Those seem extremly over powerful.

Cool battle report.

Well bear in mind that harlies pay out the nose for all those abilities. Being outnumbered is the usual situation for harlequins that and prancing about stabbing people in the eye like the sadistic evil clowns they are.

How did you get those shots? is there a piece of the Vassal program that does it, or did you press "Print Screen"?

They lost to Tau (a standard army), right? Can't be that overpowered.

Maybe, but the Tau did wipe out about 20% of the forces on first turn shooting(about all of the lower-left troops)
