Default Is the pulse carbine worth using?

Is the pulse carbine really worth using with it's short range? I mean, Pinning is nice but when your trying to keep space marines and necrons away does it actually have any value? should i just stick with the pulse rife which is roughly double its length?

(I am just asking this to see if I should add more carbines to my army)

id say yes for atleast two reasons

firstly, they are the same S and AP as rifles.
secondly, they also cause pinning.

granted they do not have the range of a rifle, but i take a one full unit with Carbines for if any one gets close i can blast away at them. the carbine is bound to make atleast one wound and if used correctly with other units they can be very affective.

you shred a opposing unit down a bit incuring modifiers to Ld with the added wounds of the
Carbine you can have a 50 % ld pinning test if used right of course. i find this VERY usefull against Nids

but i use this in BIG games like 3000pts so i guess if the situation calls for it.

hope this helps

Yea probably two full units of them that would be at the front of the line, but only for bigger games, in smaller ones id probably mesh them into a pulse rifle squad

Firewarriors should stick to Rifles. If you want Carbines, bring them on Gun Drones. Their Jet Pack assault move makes them a much more suitable platform.

I agree with tonka man the drones can shoot and run away making the Fire warriors sitting ducks to be assaulted.

Carbines are best used in 6 man squads without devilfish IMO. They are pretty cheap and pretty mobile, allowing you to capture objectives without worrying too much about your opponent shooting them up too much.

I'd use carbines on urban maps, or maps with tons of terrain on them where you don't have clear fields of fire and will have to move a lot.
