Default Shas'ui & Hardwired Mutitraker

Why can you give a Multi Tracker to a SHas'ui, if he doesnt have any Battlesuit systems?

FW Shas'ui's can be given a markerlight per the options in the 'dex entry. Therefore they would have a Pulse Rifle AND a Markerlight & if they have a Multi-Tracker they can fire both in the shooting phase, using all applicable rules.

Unfortunately, seeing as to how those Markerlights are NOT networked, the squad the Shas'ui is in, cannot claim any benefit from his Markerlight.

I think it was just an overlooked mistake by GW. IIRC Multi-trackers traditionally let a model shoot 2 weapons, unfortunately GW decided to split the armory into 3 sub sections Battlesuits/ Infantry/ Vehicle, then decided to only explain some wargear in one section. I.e. you only see the multi-tracker description (as well as some other items) in the battlesuit armory. Someone F-ed up and decided to make the Multi-tracer description in the Battlesuit armory relevant only to battlesuits, not realizing that it would also be used to explain the infantry version as well. So you have two choices, you can play it by RAW which would mean that the Infintry multi-tracker either does not exist, or only works for battlesuit weapons, meaning that it's a piece of wargear that makes no sense and has no use. Or you can play it (IMO) sensibly and say that it allows the model to shoot two weapons.

hey orange i think the comment before you gave the actual reasoning behind it. Shooting a markerlight and gun at the same time.

The OP asked what good was a MT when it only works on Battlesuit weapons. I completely agree with Cmdr Sunscreem on his assessment that the MT should really mean a model can shoot 2 weapons, not just 2 battlesuit weapons. But by RAW he (and I) would be wrong in this regard, thus I gave a lengthy reason to explain why I think the RAW is the wrong way to read this rule.

I think maybe he was confused and said battlesuit system in err, when he was reffering to a Shas'ui Firewarrior. Seeing as a firewarrior obviously is not a battlesuit.

Either way, he should know the answer to his question.

No, he was quite right to ask. Their are 2 descriptions for multi-trackers in the codex, one for battlesuits and one for vehicles. You might want to go and read them carefully before continuing this conversation, as their is absolutely none saying to the effect that a model may fire 2 weapons. By RAW a infantry model (battlesuit or not) may fire 2 battlesuit weapons.

And that's quite a rude thing to say. He had a question. Are you suggesting his being dumb for asking it?

On the other hand if the upgrade was restricted only to Battlesuits than it would not be in the infantry armory, strictly RAW in this case is rediculous. There really does need to be a FAQ about it as RAW doesn't work since if it was only for battlesuits there is no reason for it being available to infantry, given this is a new codex there is no excuse for such a horrendous contradiction, the fact that it is also not in the FAQ is quite irritating.

Basically here I'd say for all intents and purposes with a Multi Tracker you can fire both the Markerlight and the weapon the Shas'ui is carying.

This is giving me a good idea for some static tau teams. What if you took two teams of fire warriors and put lights on the 'ui. then choose one target for both squads to shoot at, the 'ui will shoot their lights at the unit and then the teams will use eachothers marker light hits with their own shots. Now thats what I call over lapping fire.

I'm probably not the first to think of this though, thought I'd share it anyway.

That tactic doesn't work. Squad 1 must fire all it's weapons at the same time, meaning that it won't be able to shoot after squad 2 uses it's markerlight. Only the second squad will benefit from the markerlight hit.
