Default Abbreviations?

Hi again folks.

As a total newbie to 40k (and warhammer table top stuff in general), I have used the last weeks painting my army, and reading up on stuff, I have followed a lot of very interesting discussions here on the forum, but often I come to a standstill because of all the abbreviations used. Is there anywhere you can see a list of abbreviations, or something similar?

What I'm talking about is stuff like:
Dakka
CSuit w/ BC,MT and BSF (assuming this is a Crisis Suit with some equipment)
GEQs

Also a question about Stealth suits, the "current" model (in the "Tau Empire" book) is the XV25 right?, the older one is the XV15? Where can I find stats for that?, and is it legal to field the old ones with their rules (assuming there are different rules somewhere). Will I have to try to get hold of a old codex?

Best
Rune

Dakka: How much fire pwoer a unit has eg 6 stealth suits have more dakka than 10 kroot.

BSF: Black sun filter
BC: Burst Cannon
MT: Multi tracker, but can't work with the other gear.
GEQ:Guard Equivilant. eg T3 AS5+

Dakka= raw firepower. Lots of shots (as opposed to quality of shots). It's an Orky term, that's been adopted by everyone else.

EQ stands for equivalent. GEQ's means Guardian (or Guardsman, not quite sure which) equivalent (in other words, anything with a 5+ save and T3). MEQ's are a marine equivalent. There are also some obsure ones like TEQ (Terminator Equivalent).

XV15's and XV25's are the same rules wise. The only difference is the newer XV25's can take a single battlesuit support system should they choose. But that's only a fluff (another term, meaing background story) explanation, and really they are just the same thing.

There's no list of abbreviations that I know of, but they are all fairly logical. Just the first letters of the weapon or piece of wargear.

Hope that helped.

I was under the impression we had such a list of abbreviations here.. but this post from our buddies at ATT will do: http://www.advancedtautactica.com/viewtopic.php?t=3831 (thanks to Shas'El Tael).

That should cover just about everything...

Thanks guys, you are indeed great!

Now about the stealth suits, are there rules for the XV15's somewhere, or do you use the same rules as for the "current" XV25's.

Also would that be legal as part of a army?

Yea, the rules for them are exaclty the same. Its just some people (ME) like the XV-15 model better than the newer one because the XV-25 doesnt look like someone could sneak around in it.

Thanks BurntEskiomo, I was offered some older stealth suits from one of the players at my venue, and I wanted to know if I could use them. So I guess I'll take them off him

The older ones are in metal, all solid part from the backpack. The new ones are in plastic and are much easier to put fusion blasters on.
I myself run the XV-15s, they look way better

It's just a matter of looks.
