Default Stealth Commanders

There has been much talk for quite some time about a desire for Stealth Armored Commander units. Instead of the disfunctional Shadowsun having a decent XV-22 HQ could be a great asset for the Tau. But how would it be done, how could it be balanced, would it be overpowered, do you think GW will ever give us such a unit?

Personally I think the XV22 command suit should be a wargear upgrade for the standard Crisis Commander, costing maybe 30 points, but not changing the equipment options of the XV-8. It should also be special issue so that only 1 can be taken.

But that is just what I think, I would like to hear everyone elses thoughts on how possible a Stealth Commander is and how it should be done if it is done.

The likelyhood of wether or not we get a stealth commander is all dependant on when our next update is, and how well shadowsun is recieved. It would be pretty hard to balance though....

Not necessarily, White Dwarf is currently including new Blood Angel rules that aren't a full codex yet and there have been Chapter Aproved articles in the past. If there is enough support GW might release rules in White Dwarf.

Yes, but the problem is that other people may complain about tau getting an upgrade so soon, and besides other races need some new stuff *cough*orks*cough*

Orks are getting a new codex in the very near future.

Also Marines seem to be getting new models with every release, with the Tau following the Marines so closely in popularity it's high time GW gave someone other than Marines some attention between codexies.

I think making the XV22 an upgrade to a commander would be a good idea. My only real beef with it is that it would downgrade the T to 3, but if they made more modified rules or something to keep a higher T, I would be all over that. I just don't like the idea of getting instagibbed by an Assault Cannon or similar weapons.

If it keeps the higher T of the XV8, I think the upgrade should be at or above 30 pts. You get the Stealth Field, integrated Shield Generator, and theoretically the ability to mount 2 same weapons systems as seperate (not T-L), which is pretty powerful I think.

I think an upgraded commander would be great. I'd also like to see the rules for the command drone standardized, and integrated into the suit. That would put the cost to 50+ points in my mind.

Also, of course, updated Gue'vesa rules. I think a lot of people on the boards miss them, and they wouldn't take much time to rework. Upgraded commander first though, definitely. We seriously need the leadership boost.

I'd like to see that but the Dark Eldar and Orks need codices. Now. Hear that GW? Can you hear that?!

Tau Stealth Commander with two CIBs aganist a group of imperial guardsmen:"SAY HELLO TO MY LITTLE FRIENDS!"

:P

Anyway, it would be awesome to have a stealth commander to go with my stealth suits.

Hey, Firewarrior brought the Rail Rifle, why couldn't Dawn Of War bring the Kais suit?

That being said, I thought Dark Crusade (the campaign) had a stealth upgrade option. If I remember it was twenty points or so. White Dwarf would only need to do some half page fluff article with XV-22 rules and stealth generator rules at the bottom. They could also use it to push that Kais conversion box they've got going.

At the end of the day, lots of Chapter Approved stuff can't be used in the big tournaments anyways, so It'd be a fun upgrade for friendly games. And it would be official.

If I had it my way, a 'Crisis' commander could buy stealth for 25p extra, or a XV22 for 85p ('O) 75p ('El) plus weapons.
