What would make a good combination with an airbursting fragmentation projector? With a burst cannon and multitracker it can be more effective in handling infantry. A missile pod adds a little more distance.

Either a Flamer, or a Missile Pod/Burst Cannon, depending on the type of the save they have, and how good it is.

to be honest with you im not a fan of the weapon.
it would also depend on who your giving the AFP too. if its your commander i would not. but if it is id say a PR or MP would go well with it (PR for power and MP for the range)
but it is entierly up to you.
for a Crisis team leader id say go with the MP with out a doubt.

I put my AFP on the Deathrain Shas'Vre. With a HW Multi-Tracker & Target Lock, he can use it as anti-hoard defense. It also is nice for when those pesky Eldar Dire Avengers are getting a little too close... nice Pie Plate of Doom[sup]TM[/sup] for all your Eldar removal needs.

Though the AFP isn't really strong, I like the idea of using the large blastmarker against my opponents. So I'm looking for ways to use it in my army. Maybe as Shas'vre to add it to my Shas'o with the Cyclic Ion Blaster and MP.

I think that a 'vre would be a better Decision than Shas'o or 'el. you would want your command to take out heavier foes right?

I have been hard at work trying to come up with a competitive army list for the past few days. I recently came across the special issue weapon, the Air bursting Fragmentation Projector, which I have never heard of before. I was just wondering if someone could tell me the usefulness of such a weapon.

This is where i come into play. i love this thing. a few things is one it doesn't require BS. and two it can shoot over walls. it can scatter but chances are it wont scatter far enough to stop them. now the main point of this weapon is large amounts of +5 save units such as orks or IG now the special thing about this is the lack of a coversave. so those worthless units in a building don't get a +4 coversave. so if you have oh... a multi tracker and the AFP along with a Twinlinked flamer this thing can pretty much handle any horde units

Never heard of it? Are you using the 4th Edition Codex?

It is a short-ranged low-strength Guess Range weapon. It is useful because it uses the large blast template and doesn't need LOS (and it causes Pinning). That is pretty much it.

Well, since my original post was deleted (which puzzles me as it was about a completely different topic pertaining to the same weapon) I was wondering if anyone could explain the usefulness of such a weapon. I would love to know the pros and cons of the projector and if it is worth including in an army.
