Umm piranha flank. Run a pair of piranhas with fusion blasters up one of the flanks. It distracts the enemy. (once had a marine player chase them with two tac squads and a tyranid vet squad) and if they don't take damage (which they usually don't) you've got the rear and side armor of tanks wide open.

sit back and shoot with railguns and missile pods, then relocate when they get too close

Cheers!

FoF. No doubt.

Also, theres the transport exit blocking which is awesome. You know where you block a transports exits off with piranhas and destroy the transport. Killing everything inside

Probably the Piranha bank-shot. Sort of a fast variation on Amaliel's. Send a Piranha with Seekers up 24", getting into the rear arc of an enemy vehicle. Then fire a Markerlight at the front. Seekers can be fired regardless of how fast you moved, and they draw a path from the firing unit rather than the Markerlight for determining where they hit.

My favourtie thing tactic wise about mech tau is
in my 2000 pt list
i run 4 fire warrior squads all in devilfishes(of course)
so 3 squads form a big FoF

which sorta works like this

devilfish devilfish devilfish
FW'S FW'S

the middle squad splits in half making it 18 FW'S each side( 72 rapid fire shots 36 x 2 is 72 )

all while my last squad runs wild going for objectives
and while all the troopyness is going on
my 2 piranhas seek out HQ choices and tanks

Heres a bad one. Use piranhas to block all the exits to a transport vehicle (i.e. landrader). Use them to blow it up (hopefully) and whatever inside dies if it cannot leave an exit hatch and have 1" of clearence from any of your pirnahas and if you placed them right they wont. So Bye Bye 250 point landraider....and 360 point termy command squad. It really nasty. Another trick is when your deploying you are probally not going to have enough spacee to hide all your skimmers, make sure you hide all your hammerheads, then try to cram our devilfishes in. If you cant fit your fishes do not start your fire warriors in them. Try to angle the fish so the back end is in cover, then put your fire warriors safely out of LOS. Turn 1 just load them up. The reason behind this is if they go first and blow up your fish they can cause fire warrior casualties and pin them down. Another trick is to put your piranhas in LOS infront of your devilfishes. Then the enemy has to take target priority checks to hit your more juicy fishes.

Fish of Fury; a classic, always good. (If you don't know this one, uhh why are you playing MechTau :P)
Feeding Frenzy; a little cheesy, but highly effective. (The exit blocker, doubly evil vs termies in Land Raiders)
Fish Bait (lets make it official :P); always great. (The Piranha to your rear. Face it, it usually is Fish Bait next turn anyway )
Skimmer Wall; Movable, immovable objects are great. Especially when you're doing the moving.

Remember. Drones are seperate units when they deploy. So you can move your piranhas up 12", drop their drones, fire their fusion at one target and the drones at another You can also deploy drones from stunned or shaken vehicles to allow them to shoot

just a point there... as you say... drones are independent units... and still are when they are cradled in the vehics.. so you can shoot them on other targets as they are not a part of the tank...
