Default Good 40K novels?

Hi there

I just started playing 40K, and painting minis (my Tau army is coming along nicely ).

Last week I purchased the "Horus Heresy" novel from my local game-store, and quite enjoy it. So I wanted to ask you vets here; is there any 40k novels that feature the Tau?

It would be cool to read something with Tau as antagonists or protagonists, or even just mentioned.

...any other especially good 40k novels you can recommend would also be appreciated.

I have not read any of the novels but I have heard good things about the novel "Fire Warrior" which is about the Tau.

The first Ciaphas Cain novel features the Tau, and is also quite good. Nothing overwhelming I'm afraid.

On a different note, without giving too much away, you'll likely want to read Rogue Star (and it's forthcoming sequal Star of Damocles). A very good book, IMO.

The second Last Chancers novel Killteam also features the Tau. Not quite as enjoyable as Rogue Star, but a good yarn at anyrate!

I'll second that recomendation. It may not be what your hoping for, but it's probably one of the better ones with a decent perspective on the Tau.

I personally diden't like that one. Deffinatly not for the Tau lover.

Fire Warrior was an alright book. Can't remember most of it though :-\.

Beyond what others have said I don't think there is any more books on the Tau, except for the Forgeworld book Taros campaign. I herd that was pretty good too, but its so expensive :-[.

Anything by Dan Abnett. The Gaunt's Ghosts series is fantastic. The Ultramarines Omnibus by Graham McNeill is really good as well. Last Chancers was pretty good as well, and as has been mentioned the Tau are in the second book, Kill Team.

Personally I'm not a fan of the Gaunt's Ghosts or the Last Chancers series and Graham McNeill did a terrible job with the Ultramarines IMO.

However Kill Team features the Tau as the enemies of the Last Chancers, For the Emperor (the aforementioned Ciaphis Cain book) includes Tau and is not a bad book. Tau are in Firewarrior of course and there are dealings with the Tau in the book Rogue Star, which is set before the Damocles Gulf Crusade.

"For the Emperor" and "Rogue Star" are the best of them. I didn't care for the others all that much.
