Default Base size for Shas'O R'Myr

I've a quick question regarding the supplied base for Shas'O R'Myr...

All battlesuits, even commanders (incl. Farsight) all come on 40mm bases. However, R'Myr comes with a 60mm base. Is this correct? I believe there is a rule stating that you cannot downsize the supplied base. Why would you be forced into a 60mm for just this one, however??

Is this just for display model purposes? I noticed on the FW site that sometimes the XV88-2 is shown with a 60mm base and sometimes with 40mm (which makes more sense as broadsides are all 40mm, the XV88-2 is just a different weapons config).

Would I be wrong in putting R'Myr on 40mm?

I believe the Forge World Crisis suits are put on the larger bases to make them balance better , you really do not want that model falling over to much. The larger base is not going to be a hindrance.

I'm not 100% sure but i think the base size rule is only for tournaments.

Don't quote me on that i only think it comes in to play in tournaments.

If you want to stick him on a 40mm, then I'd advise keeping a spare 60mil base lying around just in case someone gets sticky. If they do, you can always put the bigger base under the small one and continue the game. Of course if he's too much of a jerk about it, you can dreadsock him

Thanks all.

Yeah thats the best option I think, Fish Ead.

I only wished to avoid using a 60mm due to enemies getting more models on base-to-base and logically, there is no reason why R'Myr should have a larger base than other battlesuits.

Actually, all FW suits come with a 60mm base. I just went with a 40mm for mine, but I did keep the 60mm around in case anyone ever cared.

Nobody did, anyhow. It just looks right along with all the other crisis suits on the same base size.

You have to have the same base side as the current production model, which is 40mm. So as long as you're counting r'myr as a regular crisis commander you're in the clear with a 40mm base and no one can say anything about it . Same goes for the broads and regular suits. However, if you're using the forgeworld rules you have to stick to the base size provided for that unit's model, so 60mm.

Actually, the rules explicitly say that you can use a larger base size than required. So there really isn't a problem using 60mm regardless.

And while technically, you *shouldnt* use 40mm for the fw suits, its not really that big of a deal.

I understand why FW does the huge base size thing(Tau aren't the only ones. FW greater daemons come on larger bases, for example), to properly display these cool models, but I really don't feel they should be required. After all, 60mm bases make deepstriking with a retinue kinda annoying....

Maybe it is because he is considered a Monstrous Creature.

And as far as I know, he is the only XV that is being characterized that way.

Hope I helped.

You didn't.
Farsight (O'Shovah) is a MC.
R'myr (Commander Longknife) simply pilots a customised XV 8.

Anyway, to the discussion, I'd say it's fine to put him on a 40mm, though I don't see why you'd do it, especially if you want one of those lovely, dynamic, poses. And a Fish 'ead said (heh heh, that rhymes ;D), have two bases and stick the 40mm on the 60mm if they get stroppy. Then dreadsock them.
