Default Keeping lone commander alive

In the 750 point army I'm putting together (thanks to everyone that gave input to that btw), I have a lone Crisis commander. Being by himself, he could be very vulnerable, so what's the best way to keep him alive? Use Jump-Shoot-Jump and keep him out of LOS of enemy units?

Thanks .

If he uses Short/Medium Range weapons then JSJ is your friend, as are Shield Generators.
If he uses Long Range weapons, then his IC status is more than enough to protect him, provided he isn't the closest target.

sheild drones id say are good to keep him alive by himself and maybe iridium armour for a 2+ save and a sheld generatore but he'd be realy realy pricy now for 750.
and with the iridium armour you would lose your 'jump back' phase.

try shield drone and generator.

Sheild generators is good for a lone character, but not shield drones. They will cancel out his IC status, which is the primary purpose of a lone commander.

I say shield generator and stimulant injectors , along with JSJ and IC status are a tough combination to beat.

This is what I use on my commander, though you may want to drop the stims. My commander's only ever died from instant death(although the stims were a life saver at times). Your choice though.

so what your saying is that oven cleaner can remove paint from plastic models? and after that, you take a toothbrush to your plastic model, and the paint just comes off?

he wants to keep him alive. though IC will help aswell if he uses cover to the best he can haveing a shield drone would be a great help to him 2 would be better but it would be very expensive.

Digital Dave,

Have a read through the "shooting at independent characters" section of the rulebook. An Independent Character can only be targeted if he is the closest model. Therefore, by being careful to always leave a durable unit closer to the enemy than your Commander, you should never be able to be shot. Kroot infiltrated into 4+ cover and an empty Devilfish (with Decoy Launchers!) both make excellent options in this regard.

Use JSJ to shoot men before jumping. Also go for areas of the battlefield where there are very few heavy weapons to stop your Commander from dying of Instant Death

In a small battle i played recently, iridium armour and 2 shield drones made him unkillable, especially as the drones also get the 2+ armour save.

This makes him loose IC status, but with use of a little cover he will survive easily, as he can take a ton of high AP fire and survive well. (and with 6 effective wounds take a looong time to down)

He also works great at distracting your opponents elites and other better units without dying

This is done with majority save rule ?
