Note my road block is 85 points, not 90. Since its going to be parked it doesn't need decoy launchers.

Also I'll admit, I've never actually tried this, the idea just occurred to me, but I am going to a tournament on Saturday, perhaps I'll have a chance to give it a go. It could be very handy, and a great lure in a Kauyon style list, since its a very appealing lure to troops who can kill tanks in combat. Things like Assault marines, bikes and genestealers.

If you have the points and you are playing an opponent who loves to play with armour, strap a couple of Seeker Missiles and find some cover and sit and wait until you hit a target with the ML. STR 8 AP 3 doesn't suck.

Really? I thought I was that only one to use that tactic.
Actually, you are. I just thought of this as I was posting and sulking after yet another unsuccessful plan for world domination.

personally I never use warfish, are they worth the extra points?

I always equip my Devilfish with almost everything. When the shiat hit the fan, I pack my pathfinders in there and away they flee in the fish. Sometime, I use the fish to force the squad through the ennemy line and deploy them behind. Since most of their units can't really hurt my fish and stay way from it's flechette discharger, they can't do nothing. I just have to keep an eye for that nasty Wraightlord or my Necron friend in general.

When playing sub 1000pts game without other tanks or anti tanks stuff (like new players tend to have), the Devilfish is untouchable.

Hmm I thought I showed pros/cons of fish already...

***NOTE***

For Fletchers, I would put it, why? Because the tank shock becomes special ;D Now if you tank shock, even if they chose Death or Glory they have a good chance to die even before they get to trow whatever they have at your fish...

Walk Tall everyone!!!!!

Thanks, those are some great uses, but using it as a Transport still bugs me. FW's have range 30 (like you didn't know) so, if anything, they'll be bringing the fight to you. A turn in a Devilfish is one turn less of shooting?

How can you represent a Warfish configuration on the model?

I thought it would be obvious, you know, like, they're called Transports. Didn't know 'bout Kroot, my point stands though.
So, not only did you obviously ignore the first post by sarcastically suggesting he uses his transport as a transport, when he very clearly said he was looking for OTHER uses besides a transport or Fish of Fury, but you don't even know what you're talking about, either. :-\

Anyway, that road block idea sounds fun. A bit expensive, but I suppose that's how it works, the more tempting the lure the more likely your opponent is gonna bite. If the fish is on the ground then they have to get around it to hit the suits, don't they? I mean it doesn't just force a target priority like the firewarrior FoF does? I might try that myself.

Enough. Keep it clean in here.

[hr]

Using it as a transport is all well and good, but you need to emphasize on what you need the transport to do. This is more complicated for the Tau than it is for, say, Eldar. The Eldar have many units that use the transport to get into close-combat faster, or to protect a unit with assault weapons until they reach their effective range. The same is true for all flavors of Space Marines and Orks.

But Imperial Guard and Tau forces use them a little differently. Both lists can use them for evacuation/protection, and both lists can use them to get a unit to an objective. But both lists do this at the cost of Firepower. Howling Banshees and Fire Dragons are not wasted when they are in a moving transport, as they wouldn't be shooting anyway. And Guard can at least fire out of their transports. But the Tau sacrifice a great deal of firepower by keeping units embarked, so you have to have a good reason regarding why they are there and what they are going to be doing.

Apart from that, Devilfish can be light gunships when equipped with SMS. They are never scoring units, unfortunately, so their secondary use is normally to tank-shock enemy units or force priority tests to fire at Hammerheads. Just be careful to watch your fire lanes. A mobile Devilfish may not block LOS, but a crashed one can and often will.

There's a whole range of things you can do, it's just that 'stock' config isn't really that great.
Personally, I do not suggest the warfish config until you fill all heavy slots for the simple reason that an ionhead packs more firepower and armor for the price.

But, when you're outta slots and need more big skimmers...do whatcha gotta do. Warfish are ok for pathfinders too, since they'll never be riding in the darn thing.

I'm not sure if it has been said(didn't read whole thread) but you can use it to lure Black Templars using righteous zeal sideways or even backwards if you get it behind their lines. It could also be use to force target priority checks
