Default The Skyray

ok i would like to talk about Skyrays i personaly love them but i aslo pull lots of markerlights. so i would like to talk about the pros and cons of the skyray, lets just start with the cons

~Still expensive of ranging around 140 with upgrades
~only six missles
~missles are only str8 ap3
~Weak on fire power
These are the main cons of the sky ray. lets jump to the pros

~the missles can be fired by anything with a markerlight. so it is mostly used as a support. most tanks will stay away from a hammer head causing you to rush accross the map but sky rays allow even weak fire warriors to take out aramon from afar.
~They are only fired on a 2+ AFTER a markerlight hit. now a hammer head can shoot 6 shots a game. if they can shoot one shot a turn. so they will miss 2 times. and a sky ray will miss only once.
~The indirect fire means they can shoot and most likely hit a tank on the side if used correctly.
~The two markerlights with a targeting array will hit on 3+ allowing support to the fellow units.

Now if you pile on markerlights you can shoot all 6 shots at one target if nessary. chaces are you will never need this.

I set up my hard points for heavy support like this
2 snipers
2 broudsides
1 skyray.

The broudsides provide the rail gun shots, snipers provide more markerlights and anti heavy infantry and the sky ray provides more markerlights along with the missles

Just wondering, why not take the 3rd sniper team? it's another m-light and 3 more rail rifle shots.

Iv not had a chance to use a Skyray yet but i think id use them as fodder to be honest and only take them in a 2'000Pt's list.
They can move and shoot using Burst Cannon's or SMS's and also use there missiles.
Once the missiles are gone use them to claim objectives. like table quarters or Relics etc. Get the use out of the points you spend.
What do you think to that?

Ven!!

Skyrays are a platform for carrying Markerlights. The Seeker Missiles are a secondary weapon. If all you need is Seekers, they are cheaper and more useful when they are spread out across a number of different skimmers.

They are slightly more accurate than a Railhead, but they are also much weaker. And they are not as accurate nor will they get as many shots as an Ionhead.

So I like the Skyray as a support tank if you are already bringing two Hammerheads, but I do not see it as a replacement for them.

I personally haven't used a Skyray in battle before, but then it doesn't fit particularly well with my playstyle.

As previous posters have said, the Skyray is, in essence, a Markerhead with seekers attached, and in a marker-heavy army, that will prove incredibly useful, as it's a pair of markers that can maneuver around the field easily to light up whatever it is that your army has to hit. If you want firepower, just pick a Hammerhead and, if you really want the Seekers, stick two of 'em on there.

This would probably be most useful for a Static-end Hybrid force, as it would give you a mobile marker for your firebase, and can be used to draw fire away from the squishier elements of that force.

I have to agree with what's already been said. While the skyray is a powerful vehicle, it doesn't really compare to what it could be. I remember one of the rumors of the networked markerlights was that the ability of the networked markerlights was to fire all the seekers at once. That would be useful, not as it is now, unless it's against a bunch of landspeeders, which I doubt... :P

Cheers!

Skyrays are outperformed by an Ionhead significantly in terms of firepower. The ionhead costs significantly less.

Seekers may not have a max range...but markerlights do, and it's shorter than an ion cannons.

I have never found a situation in which Id rather have a skyray instead of a hammerhead.

if we are going to say for out powering. i would say sniper drones have about the same fire power, less range but much less points.

With 3 tanks and snipers, your using one to many Heavy slots.

If I see the use of Seeker missiles, I'd rather spread them out on other carriers. That saves a few points, and doesn't put all eggs in one basket. But I might see the use of those Markerlights on the Skyray...
