Default Fish of Fury

How does the Fish of Fury work? Is it effective against genestealers and other close combat units?

it helps but wont prevent it. pretty much you take a devilfish (possably two) run them up and drop the fws out the back. this forces 2 things. one is target priorty test. 2 it forces CC units to go around the tank. Things such as jump infantry wont help in this case but things like gene stealers are forced to go around the tank.

If you take more then one you should set up the fishes in a V formation around your FW and have the edges of the tank 2 inches apart. so they cannot go inbetween due to the rule where you cannot go within 1 inch unless your trying to CC the tank. when they try and go around if they have not directly CC your fire warriors yet you can load them back into the fish and drive back doing it again

You could. both are skimmers so doing this allows the FWs to shoot under the tanks. you could use a squad of parrianas or a sky ray. most say fish becaues the more devilfish you have the more FWs you can trasport

question... the 1" clearance thing, what does it count? the base the DF is on or the vehicle itself? since the base is significantly smaller than the DF itself and it's very easy to stay 1" clear from that...

I'd like to know since most people I play with count the base and therefore pretty much as a rule always have clearance from my vehicles...

The latest FAQ for the main rulebook is posted on GW's site. Print it out and have a read. It addresses your question. The 'boundary' of a skimmer is defined by the edge of the model, not the flying stand.

and FYI, if you leave space for a model to go through the tanks, they can charge the FWs through th gap as long as they decalre at least one model charging the tank.

I think that the devil fish FOF would be ineffective against Gene stealers Because of the fact that they come in hoards and are rending in close combat. I think that they have 4 attacks if they charged hitting on 6's and lets say there's 5 and thats 20 chances to get 6's. If they do than they get to roll two dice and just have to get 8 or higher.

That is if they are rending I not quite sure.

They do have rending. It doesn't work very well against Genestealers unless you can reliably kill almost all of them. Otherwise, they will just fleet around the edges or else attack and tear down the skimmers. But use a two-fish FOF and you should be able to clear out most of them.
