Default Ethereal close combat question

If an ethereal is attached to a unit of fire warriors that has charged (or been charged by) any enemy squad, does the etheral have to move to base contact with the enemy squad or can the ethereal hide more than 2" away from the action (and cower like a baby)?

He has to try and pile in 6" like everyone else. However, you can move them in any order you like, and he can't fight through the FW, so you can probably keep him out of combat for at least the first pile in, providing you got the charge. If it is the enemy's assault phase, and they are piling in, they will probably get him into B2B.

IMO, if your Ethereal is in CC and you didn't plan it, you're doing something wrong. Technically in your movement phase he can just un-attatch and walk away, i think.

Nope. Not if the unit is locked. You can not leave a unit that is locked in close-combat or broken (although that doesn't really happen with the Ethereal in it). And because the unit is Stubborn, you can't even try to flee combat. So try not to get yourself into that sort of situation.

Ah, thanks for the correction, Khanaris.

So, as I said, don't take Honor Blades, they are useless, and don't get them near the enemy.

In fact, just keep them off the battlefield. They're not worth the hassle.

Agreed.

Honestly, if the etherial gets into melee...hes going to die. Any CC unit whatsoever can eat enough firewarriors in a turn for the etherial to have to be able to pile in. You can't very well run away, and with no armor save, it's not as if he has any real chance of surviving. At this point, you basically just try to figure out how to keep your stuff from running off the table if you fail a LD check.

*holds single candle lit vigil for Aun'shi*

Yes, our ethereals are just that: Ethereal.

Don't push those flimsy blue exhibitionists into the battlefield, their leader is gone.
(Aun'shi was sooo much fun)
