Default To Pass or Fail?

Which is better for Tau: To pass a close-quarters combat test or to fail it and fall back?

You only want to fail if you have no models in base to base contact so the enemy doesn't sweeping advance.

But you usually want to fail and get out of combat.

Lesson, remove models in base to base combat first, and if you know you're going to be assaulted next turn, position you unit in your movement phase so as few as possible units will be in B2B when they are assaulted.

You never want to fail in your own turn, but you almost always want to fail in the enemy's turn (unless close-combat is taking place right next to another unit). There is little sense in drawing out a close-combat if you are not doing any damage and you are going to die within a turn or so anyway.

So far I agree with everything that has been sayed. My FWs would rarely get into h2h, as I am hybrid Tau (all my FWs are mounted). If they ever did I would tank shock my enemy (anvil and hammer as we talked about in a previous subject) to a pulp or if I don't have enouph tanks to shock with then I would do it just to save my poor little blue dudes.

some times i hope to fail regardless weather i fall back or sweeping advance. depending on the units of course. like if i consoildate on terminators i might as well just kill all my guys right there.

with a etheral pass so he dies and you hit on 3+ and charge at the other squad
without a etheral fail and move 6"backwards
