Default Why hounds?

I have always seen army lists that have 10 kroot and 6 hounds. and i wonder why choose the hounds. the only they they have better then reguar kroot is two more initive. When Reguar kroot get guns.

One more thing is do kroot hounds get the +1 cover save?

Not sure, but I've never seen this. Only seen 20 Kroot and 6 hounds to make a max sized Kroot squad, obviously for the better CC abilities.

All kroot get the save. I think people pick them up for more models in the unit, increased Initiative, and they still allow the unit infiltration.

so what your saying is that oven cleaner can remove paint from plastic models? and after that, you take a toothbrush to your plastic model, and the paint just comes off?

The 6 hounds + 10 kroot is due a Mathhammer discussion some time ago.

It was figured that the Hounds would strike first, kill 0.9 marines or similar, and could then be removed as casualties before the kroot got to strike back, thus allowing the Kroot their full amount of attacks.

And yes, hounds use the fieldcraft rules. The rule is for the army list entry as a whole, not just the kroot.

i mainly just keep my kroot in some type of terrain at all times. i just shoot in numbers at units that pass buy and if they assult me i get first strike. so the extra initiative is no real bonus for me

Max would be 20 kroot, Shaper, 6 hounds, a Krootox, knarlock riders, and a greater knarlock (actually Im not sure about the knarlocks bein in the same squad as krut). ;D

1. Their 1pt cheaper then kroot. A nice way to soak up wounds if your kroot arn't going to be shooting that much.
2. Their Initiative bonus come in handy against armies like the SM's where everything has I4 (which is better then the kroot's).

If your allowing the kroot to get charged in cover, kroot hounds may not be as usefull (though arguably they could come in handy in the 2nd round of assault), but it's usefull when on the charge. Because they go first, you can have them attack, let the enemy attack, and then take the casulties from the hounds, thus making sure all the regular kroot you have still get to contribute their attacks. So in the end (hopefully) you don't lose any attacks on the charge, makig the kroots assault all the more powerful.
