Default Assault marines and lil old me

Theres me only having played a few games with my mates coaching me along, then they let me get on with it this time. Against someone with space marines... cheesy ones. Some rock hard dreadnaught, 2 squads of Snipers and a full squad of Assualt marines with his HQ choice in there too.

He was on me in turn two and i couldnt stop him, that D6 movemnt after winning combat just linked up my units nicely......

how do i stop them jumping on me?

Cheers

by the way im new to Warhammer and to Tau Online, HELLO EVERYONE

Hello and welcome to the forums.

We can't really help you unless we know what kind of army you have/what you have in it.
The best bit of advice: Keep your units at least 7" apart.

Against the dreadnought, your best bet would be to quickly eliminate it using railguns and missilepods. Piority target tho, would be the assault marines. Yes, they seem pretty nasty, being able to kick the ass of any tau unit they meet, and also the blistering 12inch movement.

What you could do would be to split your forces up, moving them more then 6 inches apart, allowing for overlapping fields of fire. The moment the assault squad contacts one unit, try to make sure that they take maximum damage to enable them to flee, such as removing shas'uis, allowing powerfists to take more tau out by removing those not in base to base. After fleeing, using Kauyon, move in for the kill, rapid firing the squad with multiple units, such as firewarriors, kroot and so on. His assault squad should not be able to take more then one unit out per turn, whilst taking alot of return fire.

If you think he is cheesy, then take it back at him, bring sniper drone teams, vespids, a hell lot of plasma guns and ionheads. No assault squad can survive that barrage.

Welcome to TO.

The easiest thing to do is space all your static units at least 7" apart. That way a single attacker can't sweep from one squad to the next.

Other than that its just target priority. The scouts are putting out relatively few shots a turn, the assault squad should take a lot of fire. The Dread is probablya venerable dread if its tough to kill. Your best bet is to focus all your firepower on the assault squad. Then use a few Fusion Blasters or put a Railgun slug through the HQ and kill the guy in one shot, if he has an Adamantine mantle swap for Plasma weapons and/or Ion Cannons.

Once the assault units are out of the way then put your anti tank fire into the Dread, and then mop up the scouts. Focusing your fire to the best effect is the best way to defeat such an unbalanced foe.

or submunition the scouts ASAP, as they have an armour that instensely dislikes getting hit with a railgun

that and get deathreains for the scouts, and the dread while your at it.

Assault marines are very hard to stop, because the are FA units and the are Jump infantry, that means that the always may charge in the assault passe.
I figth with the space marines of my brother against the Imperial guard, and the assault marines are owing them.
So, if you want to stop them, KEEP SHOTING!!!

Don't buy a Devilfish next, get a Skyray. Has all the parts to make a Skyray/Hammerhead/Devilfish. Then you can use which ever configuration you need that day. It will take a little cutting and some magnets, but is well worth the effort. As for a possible list I'll try to make one up later when I have my codex on me.

Let's see

HQ
Crisis Shas'el with Targeting Array, Missile Pod & Plasma Rifle @ 92 pts

Elites
Crisis Shas'ui with Twin-linked Fusion Blasters & Shield Generator @ 63 pts
Crisis Shas'ui with Twin-linked Missile Pod & Targeting Array @ 53 pts
4 Stealthsuits @ 120 pts

Troops
3 squads of 8 Fire Warriors, with Shas'ui & bonding @ 95 pts each
16 Kroot @ 112 pts

Fast Attack
Piranha with Fusion Blaster & Targeting Array @ 70 pts

Heavy Support
Broadside with A.S.S. @ 80 pts

Total = 875 pts

As for what to get next, buy the Sky Ray box. It doesn't matter if you only want a Devilfish as the box contains all the options to make any Tau vehicle, 'Fish, Hammerhead or Sky Ray, so it's great value for money, especially if you magnetise the bits so their interchangeable.

sky Ray boxes are the best. Anyway you should get another HH or Broadside. I am Railgun happy!
