Default Targeting Array or Shield Generator for my Shas'el

Well, I've been doing some more thinking about my list, and still can't decide how to kit my commander. I decided to give him a fusion blaster and plasma rifle (glued on, no swapping), but can't decide between a targeting array for the BS or a shield generator for survivability, and ultimately thought I'd make this thread asking for a second opinion.

Shas'El T'au Sho'ka'ta Ar'yen
Plasma Rifle, Fusion Blaster, Targeting array, hard-wired multi-tracker, hard-wired target lock, Stimulant Injector. Total: 112 Points

This is how I've equipped him for the moment. I need to make up my mind before I start painting him...which probably won't be for a while, he's the last one in line behind an entire 2000+ points of Tau.

EDIT: Oh, another battlesuit question...is it better for say, a deathrain model, to have the twin-linked missile pods and a targeting array, or twin-linked missile pods and a flamer? Will they still be fairly reliable without the extra BS?

First i should take a Shas'o,
second, personally i should take a shield gen.
Every time I make a armylist, I choose for a longer time a commander.
(ps, if you fight Necrons a lot, you now that the warscythe ignores invulnerable AND armor saves .)

No worries, but remember that you can use the "modify" button to clean up posts after the fact (as I have done here). And welcome to the forums! - Khanaris

With your weapon setup (Helios) a shield gen is better, simply because you are operating at such short ranges you're going to get shot at more, by nastier weapons. And due to you being close you can't rely on the Shas'el's IC status to protect him.

However, if he has bodyguards the TA is the better investment as he's now part of a unit.

Deathrain with TA (aka Deathrain+)is better than Deathrain with flamer. The flamer is if you want to run 'em cheap. I'm sure can free up six points to equip a Deathrain as a Deathrain+.

And welcome to the Forums Vespidslord. As a note you can always modify your post instead of double posting (which is frowned upon here). It's a little link at the top right corner of the post that says 'modify'.

Sounds like you got hit by a missile launcher with those stats. Lascannon is S 9 AP 2, and just as deadly.

Why the targetlock? Unless he's in a squad it's totally useless.

As Ravager Zero said, I would try and use my Independent Character status to protect me. If you don't think your going to be able to use that, then i would get two shield drones via a HW drone controller, so your battlesuit still lives if you fail the Invulnerable. I never take shield generators, as I think there are much better hardpoint options. You might instead try using cover, especial with your jump- shoot- jump. Just my opinion.

With that configuration, I would scrap the Target Lock and keep the Targetting Array. Shield Generators are only useful if you have a Bodyguard, and that is only a good idea if you are playing up over 1,850. Use IC protection and JSJ to keep him from being targetable. The Shield Generator is too expensive (and it doesn't really provide much of a save) to rely on.
