Hi guys.
Im a n00b and I could do with some help. I just bought my first codex, but that is all I have, not even a single mini. So needless to say I only have a vague idea how to play. In the codex, with each unit comes lots of stats. The stats are represented by letters, and I have no idea what they mean. WS BS S T W I A Ld Sv What do these all stand for, and how is each used??? Thanks for any help you give. LordMagfire

WS- Weapon Skill, the higher this is, the better your guy is in close combat.
BS- Ballistic Skill, the higher this is, the better your guy is at shooting S- Strength, The higher, the stronger your guy (better in close comabat) T- Toughness, the higher this is, the harder your guy is to kill W- Wounds, the more woulds he/she has, the longer he/she lives. I- Initiative, the higher this is, the more possibility of striking first in Close Combat A-Attacks, The more attacks you get, the more chance you have of killing your opponent Ld- Leadership, the higher, the less likely to fall back Sv- Save, the lower, the better (2+, the only way to die is rolling a one, a 5+ means you roll a 5 or 6 or die) Further information can be found in the Universal Rulebook |

But try to find the Battle for Macragge Rulebook, if you can. It is an abridged version with just the rules. It shows up on Ebay fairly often.

I second Khanaris. It's definitely nice to have the full 4th edition rulebook, but if you just want to jump in and start playing the abridged rulebook from the Macragge box is usually available on ebay for 1/4 the price of the hardcover.

Heck, for it's cheap price I'd say just go get the BfM box set, especially if you can get a discount, like on ebay, etc. I've been playing for years, and I still got it.
http://macragge.us.games-workshop.co...oxcontents.htm Use it to learn the basics, once you done that you can start picking up Tau models. Otherwise you'll be lost in a sea of information, (unless you already know a person who can teach the game to you). Plus you also get some of the basic stuff you'll need for the game such as dice, scatter dice, templates, and measuring sticks (heck even some nice terrain). |
