Nope, not unless you are playing an Imperial Guard force as "count-as" Gue'Vesa army with no Tau support. :-\

Are the human helpers in a White Dwarf somewhere? My impression is that they are just an alternate troop choice.

Too bad you can't take allies besides Kroot... Or can you?? That'd be a cool force with some Tau Allies.

Kroot, Vespid, and Gue'vesa are all of the allied races yet under the banner of the Tau Empire, unfortunately. We're going to have to wait a while for the next big 40K campaign and hope that something comes up with the Tau trying to secure a treaty with some branchoff force of another army, or with a previously undiscovered race.

If you really want make up some house rules and use the empire allies rule. 1 HQ, 1 Elite, 2 Core, 1 Fast but you still have to meet your 1 HQ and 2 Core before you can take them. It would allow things like chimeras, sentinals, and hell hounds.

Standard allied rules would rock. Leave in the traitor guard special rule, as well as something for vehicle killing, but otherwise, it'd be very fluffy, and a blast to convert.

I think I may have to get a chimera and paint tau stuff all over it.

As I started on guard and switched over to tau thats what I did to boost my point value. I'd claim they were traitor guard leaving in the traitor rule, which takes effect when any empire army fights each other as far as I know so it didn't really matter, and would give them no doctrines to represent that they are merely an organized militia and not a trained fighting force. The fluff was that this was one of planets on the empires border and therefore under constant threat of invasion so in order to boost their forces the tau formed a militia of converted humans and equipped them with empire weapons and vehicles that were captured.
