Default The best purchase possible for your Tau army

A case. Im dead serious...it's really amazing how many people carry around models in an unpadded plastic box, one of the flimsy cardboard boxes they come in, or, my personal favorite, a ziplock bag.

I know, I know, a GW case costs fifty bucks. If you save one vehicle from destruction, you've already made back most of your costs. And it will save you a huge amount of damage, both to the models, and to that paint job you spent lots of time and effort on. Keep in mind that you don't actually need a GW case. There are plenty of at least somewhat cheaper options, depending on exactly what you prefer. Heck, a toolbox will work, if you put some effort into getting it foamed properly.

As an added bonus, it makes organizing your army easier. Need to dig out the pathfinder team? Not a problem. If they're mingled with three squads of firewarriors and some kroot, it's going to be messy. Less time spent sorting through stuff, more time for playing and actually improving your models. This hobby is an expensive one, yes, and it's tempting to cut corners wherever possible to save a few bucks, but in the long run, breaking these expensive toys will cost you more than simply casing your models properly will. I've seen entire armies damaged heavily because of improper storage, take care of yours!

I agree, a carrying case helps a lot (I love my Army Transport ^-^).

This thread should probably be in the generl forum though. Thier's nothing Tau specific about it.

...And the next best thing? MEGAFORCE!!!!!! It is still in stock and comes with probably $250 worth of stuff for $175! It makes the Battle force look like a ripoff! Or, if you don't want to get a big case, get a plastic fruit-crate-thing and you could put your units in their original boxes, but be sure to use padding!!!!!!

My Army Transporter boxes are superb for carrying my Tau... and MUCH cheaper than the GW crap.

I'll agree, the megaforce is a pretty good deal, so long as you need most the units in it. Unfortunately, I already have more hammerheads, firewarriors, etherials, gun drones, etc than I can possibly field. For someone starting out though, I highly reccomend it.

Technically, yes, the carrying cases are good for all armies...but why bother smashing your enemies to bits if they'll do it to themselves?

*pushes his hammerhead box that carries all his models out of sight* ...yeah... proper handling for all! What does irk me though is that its nigh impossible to get a normal amount of vehicles and infantry into that case, my black templar buddy is using the GW carrying case, and it carries all his soldiers just fine, but he still has to use a bag to carry his vehicles. (and let me tell you, they look MOST intimidating in such a state, hahaha)

Toolboxes work I suppose, but still you'd need one of those shoulder-slung messenger bag cases to carry a good sized force. At especially a Mechtau force.

For 500 points, I just use Tupperware packed with foam I scored from a camera case. I've got a case though. Help carrying a codex, tape, dice, army, glue, duck eggs.

For a case, you don't really need something all that fancy. You just need a strong, sturdy box and padding 8). My dad has been carrying around his TINY model trains in a fruit case in their original boxes (which are equally as flimsy as GWs) with padding , and those are 100x more delicate than any of my models (except for the five-time-glued-antenna.......)

i have 2 GW cases (the smaller black one and the huge red one) and they are amazing, i would recomend a case to anyone who doesn't use one. But GW cases aren't neccesary by any means, i have a friend who uses a metal brief-case with some foam that he cut into the right shapes for his models it works fine and isn't expensive.
