Default Vectored Retro Thrusters

Can you have three weapons on your Shas'O Commander and still have the Retro thrusters or does it count as a hard point as well?

The VRT requires a hardpoint as it is not Wargear, but a Support System.

Basically, the first two columns in the Codex: Tau for the Battlesuit Armory all require a hardpoint(Except Twin-Linked stuff, which requires two), while the last column does not require a hardpoint. The VRT Falls in the second column, thereby requiring a hardpoint.

They do take up a hardpoint. But honestly, there is very rarely any good reason to have three weapons on a commander.

Vectored Retros take up a hardpoint, and cannot be hard-wired; thus, you can have two weapons and VRTs but not three.

It's a question you could answer yourself fairly easily with the Codex, but Tau Wargear has been the bane of many new players. I recall something about a Shas'O with sixteen hard-wired Plasma Rifles from years ago, but I sincerely hope they were joking...

Well I am going to be up against a tyranid army and a necron army tonight so what weapon should I drop?
I have a Plasma Rifle, Missle Pod, and a Airbursting Fragmentation projector?

I say plasma/missile is the better config in general, though I honestly dont think VRT will help very much at all against tyrannids. They tend to eat suits alive far too rapidly, more dakka might be a bit more helpful. Its still solid against the necrons, though.

If you are fielding a Shas'O, drop the AFP and put it on another suit. Drop down to a Shas'el and pick up a Targetting Array. Keep the Plasma Rifle and Missile Pod on that one.

If you are set on using the VRT, search for "Ninja'O". That is the common name for configurations and tactics built with the VRT in mind.

I would personally favor dropping the AFP, or move it to a different, more anti-horde suit. A BS 5 using a template...

Maybe on a Shas'vre with a TL Flamer(Re-Roll to wound) and AFP...

I, respectfully, have to say that flamers should [shadow=red,left][glow=red,2,300]NEVER[/glow][/shadow] go on a Crisis Suit! Never put yourself in a position that you have to get close to be effective. Crisis suits should always carry a either a Plasma Rifle or a Missile Pod... ALL my suits have one or the other (and my Fire Knife team carries both)

Aw, flamers are fun. Yes, I know, they're quasi-suicidal, I pretty much only use them against eldar pathfinders....but the idea of a flamer and AFB is such a great mental image.
