Default Gun drone line-of-sight

do gun drones block los if placed between an enemy unit and one of your own units?
I'm unsure of the rules for this.

Friendly units never block line of sight unless they are very large models (monstrous creatures/vehicles) If the enemy is trying to fire, they must take a priority test to shoot at the friendly unit.

ok, thanks. ;D So using a drone squad as a shield to protect crisis squads (even giving the illusion of blocking los) could be a viable tactic, could it not?

eh it works for me. I use gun drones to force priority tests on my firewarriors

You could consider using piranha gun drones.
Even if you drop them piranha counts as 100% scoring unit.
They are expendable , come in cost of piranha and simply you can force your opponent to take priority tests .

No, it`s not. A target priority test is - for most armies - a mere nuisance. And even IF they fail - the Drones won`t survive much punishment, and this would leave the Suits without protection. Better jump behind some nice, solid cover.

don't use drone squads for this. Use vehicle-dropped pairs of drones.

Better to lose "20" (only if you lose the vehicle, so no points lost if it stays safe) points when someone somewhere somehow fails their target priority test (too many ld9/10 armies around) than 96...

Yes, but only bearly. I woulden't bet on such a tactic, and would only use it if I had no other option. I.E. my crisis suits would be stuck out of cover no matter where I moved them.

The tactic does, however, work very well to protect Independent Characters out in front of the main army, since ICs may never be targeted unless they are the closest model to the firer.

Never underestimate the Frisbees!

But seriously, those r/c frisbees saved my army (and my pride/ego) more times that I can count. Best example was back in 3rd ed (when there was no piority checks) they took in around 2000 pionts of Chaos firepower. Somehow my little squad of 4 survived all their bolter fire and all AP4 or less weapons missed or failed to wound! (Sadly, the defiler's battlecannon missed and end up landing on my squad of crisis! :'() And best thing was that they took this punishment for 3 wole turns until they finally died. (bikes got into assault).
