Default THE DATABASE

Hey-
So, just like with the Ultimate Tau Database I am redoing it now with the hopes of, essentially, creating a PDF book on everything ever written for the Tau- e-v-e-r-y thing.
All of it will be official which will mean Medusa conflict fluff, DOW fluff, both codex, Rouge Star, Kill-team, Firewarrior, Ciaphus Cain novels, Taros book, Aeronaticus Imperialis (anyone have this by the way?), BFG books, Epic, and- most importantly- TO member fluff that was used during the Medusa V campaign (not all of it mind you).

You can make comments on this post, however if you want things added please PM me. This is, obviosly, an enormouse undertaking but will, hopefully, help all our Tau players and Tau interested players.

I have never heard of the Hrud being allied with anyone. Xenology killed the idea that they are physically rat-like, but I tend to think that they still correspond to the Skaven archetype of a sneaky, vermin-like race.

The Hrud will not be included.
Does anyone want anything that I've missed?

The Empire

The Tau Empire inhabits a corner of the galactic 'east,' more commonly known as the Ultima Segmentum. The majority of its worlds reside in a tightly packed globular cluster with a suprising number of sentient beings and habitable worlds. The clear number of Empire colonized worlds is speculative with the advent of the Third Sphere, however it can be surmised that its worlds number a little over one hundred in the current date.
The cluster itself is bracketed in by the endless expanse of the Damocles Gulf to its galactic west and the anomalous region known as the Perdus Rift. As a result it is both protected from the eternal wars of the greater galaxy, while at the same time subject to threats from encroaching Splinter Fleets, the Orks and Human pirates. As a result the Empire is both mildly xenophobic, especially with its recent leap beyond the cluster and into the Lithesh sub-sector (a region just beyond the Gulf), yet maintaining its policies of understanding and its all inclusion to 'like-minded' races.

The Septs
Each Sept is a heavily populated and heavily defended series of colonies, outposts and planets that is centered around a star system which takes the Sept's name as its own. Additionally each Sept has its own culture and its own series of doctrines.
The following are additional paragraphs concerning the Septs which can be found in your Codex

T'au- The oldest Sept and birthplace of the Tau species. The Council of the Highest is located in a mysterious city where non-Tau are prohibited from entering. This city has currently been unable to be scanned by the Imperium as something shields it from direct detection. Cadres from T'au are considered especially accomplished and veteran.

(I must apologize for being unable to spend a long ammount of time on each entry- i will modify this post to add the rest of the Septs, I just have this long (explitive) exam)

Dal'yth- Situated on the border between the Cluster and the Greater Galaxy lies Dal'yth. A center for trade between Tau and the other species of the universe it is also the site for the first major ground engagement between Tau and Man. During the Lithesh Sector War (or known to the Imperium as the Damocles Gulf Crusade) Dal'yth was the only Sept to be invaded, however in the resulting battles lost many of its periphery colonies and allied human worlds such as Kleist and Garrus. It now serves as a mustering Sept, the final Sept before one leaves the Empire and joins the push outward, the Third Phase. Commander Puretide, one of the most esteemed generals of the Second Sphere, originates from this Sept.

Tau'n- Literally 'Second Tau' this is the second Sept colonized by the Empire's early explorers. Those here are considered particularly pioneering and have been responsible for the successes investigating the Perdus Rift.

Fal'shia- Known for the quality of craftsmen and artistry, this world sits in the south of the Empire. Many of the most technological advancements of the Empire, including the recent Rail Rifle, have come from this Sept. The Tau from this world are known as problem solvers.

D'yanoi- Literally meaning 'Twin Moons' this planet was isolated for many years, as a result this Sept developed largely on its own with a basic and regressed need for technology. The inhabitants are regarded as somewhat rustic and backwards. It is the southern most world of the Empire where the Perdus Rift is thinnest, making it an ideal place for pirate raids and partial incursions by Imperial naval elements. During the lead up to Dolumar IV incident ships from D'yanoi were noted to be at a constant state of alert due to brush fire skirmishes with Imperials. The world of Vespid can be located in this Septs territories.

Vior'la- Certainly one of the most well known of the Septs, Vior'la is the warrior world of the Empire. Literally meaning 'Hot blooded.' This world made its name during the Second Sphere wars during the Arkunasha wars and the first conflicts that seeded Tau interests beyond the Gulf on worlds like Kronos. The homeworld of the Sept orbits a binary star that brings it dangerously close to its sun. During this time the worlds inhabitants withdraw to massive domed cities to weather the 'Au'Suam' or the 'fire season' where plasma storms dance across the desert surface of the planet. The warriors of Vior'la are considered particularly aggressive and skilled in the arts of death. The oldest and most respected battle colleges can be found here including the schools of 'O'shova' founded supposedly on his variation of Puretides own teachings.
In its long history only once has it ever been directly threatened by invasion from Ork warlords entering the Empire from the Gulf. It remains one of the few worlds in the Universe to repel an Ork attack and weathering infestations by Orks as the seasonal Au'suam prevents the Ork spore from taking root.

Bork'an- Literally 'place of learning' it lives up to its name. A centre of learning and academia, it is covered with universities and research facilities. Bork'an is also one of the largest Septs, making up the majority of the South Western areas of the Empire. Currently, Splinter fleets are entering Empire space and it will be up to Bork'an to weather the attack. It was on a Bork'an colony that Aun'shi fought the Orks and became a hero of the Empire.

Sa'cea- a direct translation was not possible other than 'cea: which translates into civilized- Perhaps the 'opposite' of Vior'la, Sa'cea is another warrior world and the closest the Tau come to reaching 'Hive status.' It neighbors Vior'la and is of the same size comparatively. Its warriors are extremely abled, especially the high percentage of Stealth suit pilots who come from this Sept. Those from Sa'cea are regarded as disciplined and honorable.

Au'taal- literally: Time of preservation- this is the paradise Sept and one of the largest. It is verdant and beautiful, those Tau that leave their own Septs use it as a place of relaxing. Tau from this Sept are known for their easy going attitude to their duty to the Empire and are considered, by other Tau- lazy.

N'dras- For some reason this world was voluntarily abandoned and the Sept itself is shrinking. Those Tau from here are considered being untrustworthy and are generally of quicker temper then and brooding countenance.

Ke'lshan- Near the Perdus Rift, this Sept has suffered a great deal and is the Sept where the Dark Eldar were first engaged during colony operations on its border. As a result the Perdus Rift is now forbidden to enter by those belonging to the Empire. Those from Ke'lshan are taciturn and unfriendly- sometimes openly hostile towards aliens.

Elsy'eir- Regarded for their artistry and poetry, the Tau from this Sept are considered intellectuals.

Tash'var- Once the expanding frontier of Tau space, Tash'var now takes a back seat as colonization efforts continue to expand in the north. These Tau are considered particularly hardy and courageous for their actions against the depredations of Ork raiders and pirates.

Vash'ya- The 'world between' spheres: this is provides a majority of Tau pilots to the Empire.

T'olku- Known for their sage counsel, debating, and diplomats of its Ethereals. It has had great success with alien species and is the closes southern world to Imperial Space, particularly Nimbosa.

The Third Sphere

The Third Sphere is souly to the north, beyond the Damocles Gulf and deep into Imperial space. Originally, the Second Sphere incorperated the worlds now in the Third Sphere, however these were lost in the Lithesh Sector war. There are currently two official Septs, but there are several worlds that are growing to that level of influence as well.

Ks'y'myen- literally the 'unforeseen one'- aptly named as it was taken largely through deception. This is the northernmost Sept and makes up of many human worlds in addition to their Tau counterparts. Worlds like Kleist, Garrus, Mundus Chasmata and many more Human worlds are suspected to have fallen again to the honeyed words of the Tau Water Caste and a Sacrean based Human operative.

Fi'rios- no translation- however this is something of a rising star in the military Septs. Wrested from the control of an established Ork infestation. The Tau of this world are already being regarded as a new breed of Firewarrior for their level of sacrifice for the Greater Good.

From here- we move to smaller colonies of the Empire
