I need some advice on beating this 1850pt. space marine army

Default I need some advice on beating this 1850pt. space marine army

How should I use my army, which is:

HQ

xv8 crisis battlesuit shas'el-85pt.
-missile pod
-plasma rifle
-multi tracker


ELITE

1 group of 1 xv8 crisis battlesuit shas'ui-65t.
-plasma rifle
-missile pod
-multi tracker

1 group of 2 xv8 crisis battlesuit shas'ui-130pt.

First off, take a good look at the opponents you are facing, Orks and Marines. You can *bet* that they want to get to grips with you, Close Combat being the "universal" weakness of Tau. As shown by the Marine army posted, this force is geared to put pressure on any opponent, FAST. His Tactical squads have Rhinos to get into good positions quickly, and the Assault squad and Terminators (complete with Chaplain and Commander) are there to teleport into your lines and have their horrible way with you.

On the flipside, your army has grand firepower but it simply cannot destroy every charging element bearing down on you before he hits part of your line and starts rolling it up. Granted you could quite likely tear every armored item he possesses to pieces, but you give up any hope of advancing against him without speed.

My first suggestion is to drop the Broadside squad and start mounting your Fire Warriors into Devilfish. That way, you can withdraw your troops when the going becomes too dangerous for them; also, it allows you to advance first, and take up good positions in rocks, ruins, and the like.

Against hard-charging close combat armies like Orks and Marines, you simply ****CANNOT*** let him dictate the course of battle! You MUST make him react to you, or such an army would simply surge forward like an overwhelming tide, and grind you down by the sheer weight of numbers.

Mount the other three teams in Devilfish APCs, and add a second Crisis Elite suit if the points can be found. Keep your teams moving, perhaps in a leapfrog style, and make your opponent pay in pulse rifles for every inch he cares to take.

Drop the Bs and trim the stealths 2 models to add 2 more Fireknifes to the 1 man squad.

this will allow the 2 man squad to reliably pop the rhinos and the three man to plasma the assault squad enough to kill it w/ a FoF. then just avoid the termis or haras them w/ a spare Fireknife team.

that should make it easier.

Given that you have 14 pts left you could bond te stealths, as thi would minimize the chance of them running if they get shot at
